The crew at Engine 9 platoon #3 had some down time this morning and decided to do some routine maintenance on our hose bed today, removing all 1600 feet of 3” supply line and rotating the sections of hose when re-packing it. Each 50ft section of hose has a number stenciled on it to keep track of the rotation.

02/04/20 Platoon #3 E9 and T9 responded on the box to 1308 Columbia Rd NW. Units arrived to find a 3 story ordinary apartment building with fire showing from the 2nd floor on side C. T9 ran 2nd due and took a position on side C, laddering the building and assisting with roof ventilation. E9 ran 5th due and stretched a 600ft line to Side A and operated as the RIT engine.

This morning members of the 4th Battalion were dispatched for a Box Alarm at 1417 Meridian Pl NW. Units arrived on scene to find a 2 story middle of the row with fire showing from the 1st floor side A. E9 responded 3rd due on the box and backed up E11, stretching a line to the 2nd floor handling fire extension. T9 responded 2nd due Truck and took a position in the rear, assisting with ventilation and overhaul.

On Friday August 16, 2019 at 04:04 hours a box alarm was sounded for the address 1215 Randolph Street NW. Engine 11, 4, 21, 14 and 9, Trucks 6 and 9, Battalion Chief 4 and the Special Operations Battalion, Rescue Squad 2 and Ambulance 11 all responded for the reported apartment fire. Engine 11 and Truck 6 arrived first due and reported “smoke showing” with a working fire in a first floor apartment. All units quickly went to work and the fire was knocked down with minimal extension. Engine 9 was assigned RIG and Truck 9 worked in the Vent Group with Truck 6.

The fire was held to the initial Box Alarm with only EMS-4, Ambulance 4 and FIU requested as additional resources.

Engine 9 and Truck 9 #2 Platoon want to congratulate Firefighter Paramedic Jason Stadler on his promotion to EMS Battalion Supervisor. Jason worked his last tour with his crew on Thursday July 18th and ran the line on a working fire on Woodland Drive in NW. Jason worked his first tour in his new assignment today, July 23, 2019. Jason has faithfully served the citizens of the U Street Corridor for the past several years and now takes his life saving skills to the 2nd Battalion. We all wish you the best of luck in your promotion and lastly we bid you “good morning and goodnight!”

Yesterday members of Platoon #1 were dispatched for a Box Alarm at 14th St and W St NW. Engine 9 and Truck 9 arrived first due to find a 2 story ordinary construction restaurant with fire showing from the roof. Tonight the members of Engine 9 and Truck 9 Platoon #3 celebrated with newly promoted Sergeant Tim Baldwin, as he held his promotion dinner for the shift. Tim has been the Wagon Driver on #3 for the past 9 years, and is a true company man. He will now be assigned as the Sergeant at Truck 12 #4, congratulations Tim, and good luck!!

Truck 9 #4 platoon with some work today, ran 2nd due this afternoon to 705 Randolph St NW for a 3 story semi-detached dwelling with fire showing on side C from the 2nd floor. Crew from T9 forced entry in the rear through a fence and laddered/vented the C side, then made their way inside to help open up. Photos from DCFEMS twitter.

E9/T9 platoon #3 ran first due this morning to 3237 Hiatt Pl NW and arrived to find smoke showing from the first floor of a 5 story apartment building. Fire was located in a first floor apartment and extinguished with no reported injuries and no extension to other units.

Today marks 125 years of service to the District of Columbia for Engine Co. 9, originally established on September 6th, 1893 across the street from our current firehouse, at 1624 U St NW. the company went in service with an 1893 American/Clapp & Jones 600 GPM double upright piston steam fire engine. Then in 1966 a new (and our current) firehouse was built at 1617 U St NW and the company moved across the street. Here’s to 125 years more service to the District and the U street corridor!
