REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11TH
Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, attacks, the Airline Dispatchers Federation pauses to honor the lost lives, the families forever changed, the survivors, and all who answered the call to serve. The sorrow of that day still reaches across our nation, through countless communities, and throughout the aviation family. A quarter century later, we remember with enduring grief—and with a solemn promise “Never Forget”.
For the aircraft dispatchers who reported for duty that morning, an ordinary shift became an unimaginable test. In circumstances changing by the minute, dispatchers remained focused on safety and operational control, working alongside flight crews, air traffic controllers, airline colleagues, and public officials as thousands of aircraft were brought safely to the ground. Their professionalism, cooperation, and resolve reflected the very best of our profession. We encourage those newer to aircraft dispatching to speak with colleagues who served that day—to listen to their stories, learn from their experiences, and carry their lessons forward.
September 11 fundamentally changed aviation and the way we operate. Today’s aircraft dispatchers continue to serve as vigilant partners on the ground, working with flight crews to make informed decisions and protect the safety of every flight. The lessons of that day continue to shape our approach to security, communication, preparedness, and operational safety. Remembering is not only an act of reflection; it is a responsibility to uphold those lessons every day.
On this milestone anniversary, the ADF extends its deepest sympathies to the American Airlines and United Airlines families, and to all who suffered loss on September 11. We honor the memory of those taken from us and stand with everyone who continues to carry the weight of that day.
