PALMYRA, Mo. — The northbound lane of U.S. 61 near Palmyra was closed Wednesday after an oversized load struck a bridge over Business 61 on the south side of the city, according to officials on scene.

Authorities said an I-beam on the bridge sustained damage in the incident. Officials also noted the bridge has reportedly been struck by oversized loads on multiple occasions in the past.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported no injuries as a result of the crash.

Officials said the oversized load was en route to a data center in North Dakota.

Crews remained on scene Wednesday working to clear debris and assess the damage. Traffic was being redirected around the Palmyra exit while cleanup operations continued.
