Some roads don’t rush you.
They don’t demand music, conversations, or even plans.
They simply ask you to be present.

Driving through Monument Valley feels less like a journey and more like a reminder that life isn’t always about speed, milestones, or destinations. Sometimes it’s about the quiet stretch in between, where the sky opens up, the land stands still, and your thoughts finally slow down.

From behind the wheel, the world feels vast and humble at the same time.
Tiny human. Endless horizon.
And somehow this feels comforting.

This is the kind of place where memories don’t need filters, and moments don’t need captions yet here we are, trying to put words to something that’s meant to be felt.

Grateful for open roads, timeless landscapes, and the privilege of driving through stories older than us all. 🌄🚗

This isn’t just a park filled with ancient wood, it’s a journey through time and a landscape of unexpected wonders.

Did you know the trees here weren’t cut by humans? They were fractured into segments by natural forces during the uplift of the Colorado Plateau, as the brittle quartz that makes up the petrified wood cracked under pressure.

Ever wonder where those vibrant colors come from? As the trees were buried under layers of sediment and volcanic ash, mineral rich groundwater seeped through the wood. Iron oxides created the reds, yellows, and browns, while other minerals like copper and manganese contributed blues, greens, and purples. Over millions of years, the organic material of the wood was replaced by these minerals, essentially turning it into stone – hence why it’s so hard! The silica in the groundwater crystallized into quartz, a very durable material.
Petrified Forest is one of the few national parks that closes every night to help protect its unique resources.

And for all the families out there, good news: the park is stroller-friendly! The paved Puerco Pueblo and Crystal Forest trails are perfect for little ones and offer stunning views.

From the vibrant hues of the Painted Desert to the sparkling crystals inside fossilized logs, every step is a discovery. Don’t miss the “conscience pile,” where visitors return stolen wood, believing in the legendary curse that follows souvenir thieves.

A magical day spent exploring the beauty of Hilo with my favorite people đŸŒș
This island town on the lush side of the Big Island gave us moments we’ll never forget:

🌿 LiliÊ»uokalani Japanese Garden
A peaceful waterfront oasis named after Queen Liliʻuokalani. It’s the largest authentic Edo-style garden outside of Japan, filled with koi ponds, stone lanterns, curved bridges, and sweeping views of Hilo Bay. A perfect place to slow down and connect with nature.

🌈 Rainbow Falls (Waiānuenue Falls)
Cascading 80 feet over a lava cave, this iconic waterfall often shimmers with morning rainbows. According to Hawaiian legend, the cave behind the falls was once the home of Hina, the goddess of the moon.

🍃 Ê»Akaka Falls
Located inside a lush rainforest state park, ʻAkaka Falls plunges a breathtaking 442 feet into a deep gorge. The short loop trail takes you through bamboo groves, wild orchids, and tropical ferns, making it one of the most scenic walks in Hawaiʻi.

Hilo’s mix of natural beauty, deep cultural roots, and tropical serenity is something we’ll always carry with us.

Mahalo for the memories, Big Island đŸŒș💧🌈
