Another Mercury Optimax back up and running!

We recently completed an oil reservoir replacement on this Mercury Optimax outboard.

After installation, we ran the engine for approximately 15 minutes to verify everything was operating properly.

❄️ BOAT & JET SKI OWNERS — IS YOUR VESSEL REALLY PREPARED FOR WINTER?

As temperatures begin to drop here in Hampton Roads, there’s something every vessel owner should know before putting their boat or personal watercraft away for the season.

Just because your vessel is out of the water, sitting on a lift, parked on a trailer, or covered for storage doesn’t necessarily mean it’s protected from freezing temperatures.

Here’s why proper winterization matters:

Water expands approximately 9% when it freezes. If water becomes trapped inside vulnerable engine cooling passages, exhaust components, or onboard plumbing, that expansion can cause cracks and expensive damage.

And here’s what many owners don’t realize — some winter-related damage isn’t discovered until spring, when it’s time to get back on the water.

Winterization is about more than simply putting your vessel away for the season.

Depending on your vessel and manufacturer recommendations, proper winter preparation may include:

THIS TINY MERCURY PART CAUSED A BIG FUEL PROBLEM!

Sometimes the smallest parts cause the biggest headaches on the water!

This Mercury outboard was experiencing a fuel leak and VST overflow, and the culprit was something you might never expect!

The factory chrome plating on the VST needle was coming off!

As the coating deteriorated, the needle began sticking and could no longer seal properly, allowing fuel to overflow.

Instead of throwing expensive parts at the problem, we tracked down the actual cause and got to work!

🔧 Here’s what we replaced:
✅ OEM Mercury VST needle & seat
✅ VST float
✅ Internal VST filter
✅ Fuel filter
✅ 35-amp ignition-protected breaker

After reassembly and testing, the overflow issue was resolved!

This is why proper diagnostics matter! One tiny component can create a major fuel system problem.

YAMAHA WAVERUNNER JET PUMP REPAIR — FROM JAMMED TO PUMPING AGAIN!

This Yamaha PWC had an impeller rubbing against the wear ring, causing the impeller to bind and jam.

Robert removed the damaged components and installed a new impeller and wear ring. After checking the clearance and making sure everything rotated freely, we were able to get the jet pump operating again!

Another Yamaha F150 back together and running like it should.

This one needed quite a bit of attention. We replaced and properly timed the counter balancer, replaced the starter relay, serviced the tilt/trim relay and distribution panel, repaired the main battery-to-engine wiring, and addressed damaged and melted engine harness wiring and electrical components.

Once everything was repaired and back together, we went through our checks, hit the key, and she fired right up. 👌

Jobs like this are exactly why we always say—if something doesn’t sound right, look right, or act right, it’s worth having it checked before a smaller issue becomes a much bigger one.

If your boat is eating starters, the starter might not be the whole problem.

We came out to replace both starters on these twin 4.3L MerCruisers. Once we got into the job, we found extensive corrosion in the main electrical cables, starter wiring, engine harness wiring and accessory connections.

Both starters were replaced, the damaged wiring and connections were repaired, everything was cleaned up, and both engines were back up and running. ⚓️

This is why we don’t just replace the failed part and call it done. Marine electrical problems can go a lot deeper than what you see on the surface.
