Lofoten Islands, Norway | The Lofoten Islands are one of the most stunning areas of Norway. This is where majestic mountains meet brilliantly white sandy beaches, fishing villages dot the coastlines, and hiking trails criss-cross their way through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Europe. Between the end of May and early July, the Lofoten Islands experience almost 24 hours of daylight. The Northern Lights can make an appearance at the end of September and dance across the sky through spring.

Split, Croatia | Diocletian’s Palace was built in 305 AD for the Roman Emperor Diocletian. This massive retirement complex sits in the center of the Old Town of Split. Over the centuries, the city of Split has grown up around Diocletian’s Palace, and during this time, many of the Palace’s buildings have remained intact. Important sites within Diocletian’s Palace include the Peristyle (the center of the Palace), the Cardo (one of the main streets through the Palace), and the cellar. The cellar acted as a filming location for Game of Thrones, where Daenarys keeps her dragons in Meereen.

Cinque Terre, Italy | Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore) on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbors are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside footpath links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas.

Chartres, France | The city of Chartres, just an hour's train ride out of Paris, is famous for its Gothic Cathedral. Completed in 1220, Chartres Cathedral is iconic for its soaring nave, flying buttresses, and the huge amount of stained glass windows lining its walls. The center rose window, also called the Rose of France, is the most famous feature of the cathedral. The city of Chartres has become well known for its glass artisans, the color of "Chartres blue" being their signature specialty.

Florence, Italy | Italy specializes in food "al passegio" (on the go). Italian street food is a way to get an authentic taste of the local culture, as street food varies from region to region. One of my favorite things to do in Italy is to stroll through the cobblestone streets and eat fresh delicious food I bought from a cart or windowed storefront.
