Forty years ago was also when the Sony Walkman was introduced – an event that drove a stake into the heart of the already-dying eight-track format. 8-track sales immediately declined by half when the Walkman was
introduced, and within two years, 8-track sales dropped to nothing. In time, CDs would kill vinyl, and music downloads would kill cassettes. Now “streaming” music dominates the market. In the past forty years recording formats have been born and have subsequently died – but SPI has stood the test of time. We’re 40 Years Strong!
