For more than three-quarters of a century, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) has contributed to the rich history and economic vitality of the San Fernando Valley. Established in 1928 as a p

lace where daring young aviators let their dreams take flight, the airport continues the legacy of courage, craftsmanship and community set forth by aviation’s early pioneers. Today, as one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports and one of the largest employers in the San Fernando Valley, VNY serves a variety of private, corporate and government aviation needs. It is also home to fire, police, search and rescue and air ambulance flights that provide life-saving services to the region. VNY’s many community and educational outreach programs reflect our commitment to balancing the needs of aviation interests with those of local residents and businesses. Our goals are to build stronger relationships with our neighbors, facilitate aviation-related career and training opportunities, and open the doors of the airport to people of all ages. We invite you to explore the many programs we have to offer and to discover the airport is more than a place where aircraft take off and land. It is a valued resource to the community.

At the Van Nuys FlyaAway on Friday, February 13, our VNY community gathered to celebrate the spirit of Valentine‘s Day with patrons of the FlyAway VNY-LAX service. The airport PUPs (Pets Unstressing Passengers) joined us for a day of fun, music, giveaways, and sweet treats. Everyone had a blast. We look forward to our VNY FlyAway Valentine’s celebration each year. Thank you to everyone who came out and stopped by!

Last month, the North Valley Occupational Center (NVOC) at VNY hosted distinguished aviator Captain Precht “Brett” Galloway. The recently retired Alaska Airlines pilot shared his remarkable 40-year aviation journey with students in NVOC’s aircraft mechanic technician program.

Captain Galloway, a Desert Storm Veteran and aviation pioneer, provided valuable insights and inspiration to future aircraft maintenance technicians preparing to earn their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic licenses. NVOC, part of Los Angeles Unified School District, is one of the nation’s only aircraft maintenance technician programs located at a general aviation airport, offering students unique hands-on training opportunities.
