The U.S. Trade Representative has recently extended the tariff exclusion periods on certain products from China that are affected by Section 301 tariffs. This extension allows these products to remain excluded from Section 301 duties through September '23.

This provides U.S. businesses with valuable relief from additional costs they would otherwise incur. More information can be found on our blog:

New York is now the nation’s busiest port for US-bound trade, knocking LA/LB out of the top spot for the second consecutive month, moving 35% more cargo than pre-pandemic.

Specifically, the port is receiving upwards of 8.9 million TEU, numbers that weren’t expected until 2026-2027. While NY has only been number one for two months, it’s been seeing atypical volumes for two years.

For the Second Year, Sal Stile, president of Alba Wheels Up donated more than $10,000 in toys to nearly 200 children who otherwise may not have received a holiday present this year at Stephen Decatur Middle School this past week in Brooklyn, New York.

Brooklyn native and business owner Salvatore Stile made the generous donation in honor of his late father, Salvatore Stile Sr., who graduated from middle school in 1949 and died of COVID-19 in 2020.

“He always would refer during my childhood of the fond memories he had at this school, and he always wanted to come back and share his stories,” Stile Jr. said. “Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to come to this school, so I wanted to come back in his honor and continue a tradition I think he’d love to be a part of.”

Is there a Worldwide Container Shortage?

In this discussion, our EVP and , Vincent Iacopella talks in an interview with UCLA, where he discussed the recent shortages situation that is affecting all across the U.S.

One of the main reasons for the ship container shortage is that cargoes require more than one container to move, which contributes to higher demand. Manufacturers and retailers are looking to optimize shipping space, and many are using smaller-sized boxes.

Our President, Salvatore Stile II featured in The Wall Street Journal, he's part of "The $67 Billion Tariff Dodge That’s Undermining U.S. Trade Policy" by Josh Zumbrun.

This piece explores how avoiding tariffs is particularly attractive for U.S. retailers who sell price-sensitive consumer goods such as apparel, handbags, kitchen gadgets and the like, many of which were already subject to tariffs even before the trade war and how these retailers are using a model design by Alba Wheels Up to reduce the amount payed in duties when entering the U.S.

The goods, which are packaged and addressed to individual customers, are then shipped directly from Chinese factories, Alba Wheels Up bundles the shipments, and flies them to the U.S., where they are picked up by couriers for direct delivery to customers, skipping any warehousing or fulfillment in the U.S.

“We’re saving more on duties than we’re paying on shipping,” a retailer said. “It saves us time because once it arrives in the U.S. it’s already ready to go directly to the consumer,” the retailer added.
