WE'RE HIRING....Again!

We have an amazing new worker-owner Sonny who has taken on a huge amount of our riding over the last year and officially became a member of our co-op in May. Now we are once again looking for a worker-owner that loves bikes (or wants to develop a love for them) and is interested in being part of or learning more about cooperatives.

While this type of work certainly isn't for the faint of heart...it's actually really fun and yes you can do it. Here are just a few reasons why:

🚴‍♀️One of our founding worker-owners had never had any experience riding bikes on the road..much less hauling 300lbs behind them. Because we have a mentor system and awesome co-worker-owners, that rider has proudly been hauling safely for Spoke Folks since 2020!

🚴‍♀️People are usually shocked when they see the bike and trailer and give lots of thumbs up, kudos, and words of appreciation and encouragement

🚴‍♀️We are working to help make our community a better place with cleaner air and less cars on the road

🚴‍♀️We are moving our bodies and enjoying our beautiful town

🚴‍♀️The slowing down of your transportation can transform even small pieces of your life

How do we make our roadways safer?

We get more people on bikes AND we fill out surveys that tell the state what we really need!

Head over to the Maine DOT's super easy to take surveys that ask Maine citizens how they want the state to prioritize active transportation!

https://www.maine.gov/mdot/longrangeplan/

These are only available until April 30th and they take about 5 minutes to fill out ✏

There is also a survey for public transportation which is super helpful for them to hear about as well - rural areas we're looking at you!

Thank you to the ebikemaine team and for capturing photos of one of our recent rides that included an e-bike trip to Robert's Farm Perserve and then a haul over to the NPSW transfer station.

What a snowy winter! It's certainly not easy to do what we do AND we always try our best to have fun while we're doing it.

Thank you so much to our customers for their patience with us over the last few weeks as icy conditions and big storms have postponed several of our routes.

It can be challenging to be reminded of the STUFF. And Justin's right (video for reference in the comments) - all of that stuff doesn't go away! We hope as you're moving slower in the winter months that even if you aren't a customer with us you're practicing reducing your consumption and learning more about recycling practices in your city/town/area. (And hopefully adding some level of fun to it as well...it does make trash a little more glamorous 😄)

A hearty hello from all of us at Spoke Folks 🧤 Stay warm, friends!

What an incredible and picturesque late summer into fall 🍁🍂

Spoke Folks made it through one whole year of trash/recycling/compost hauling for our community this past month and we are sharing the gratitude we have for all of our customers!

We haul this full trailer all over town and get to talk to so many interesting and wonderful folks on the way. We love telling our story and why we do what we do.

Reflecting today after the first truly finger-numbing cold ride how grateful I am to be able to interact with and serve so many of my neighbors. Growing up in a very rural town meant I only had a handful of neighbors that I knew really well and on the hill I lived on, this kind of work wouldn't be possible!

Through all kinds of weather these bike routes become a meditation on community, using/ strengthening my body while in service of others, and resilience.

Here's to the winter rides ahead and to serving more of our community this coming year! Head over to our website to sign up to become a customer today ✏
