My husband just walked out the door to go over the road on Christmas… carrying his bag, knowing he’ll spend today on the edge of a mattress instead of the edge of the couch watching our kids open presents.
And he’s not the only one.
Thousands of truck drivers won’t spend Christmas with their families.
On Christmas Eve, brokers log off early. Dispatchers go home. Mechanics close their bays. Shippers and receivers lock their doors and sit down to warm meals, traditions, laughter, and people they haven’t seen in a while.
At the same time, thousands of drivers are parked miles—sometimes states—away from home. No loads. Broken trucks. Bad weather. Closed roads. Delays no one can control. Many will spend Christmas alone in a cab, eating a truck-stop meal, staring at pictures on their phone, sitting on the edge of a mattress.
This is the side of trucking no one talks about.
Logistics has a lot of moving parts, but drivers carry the heaviest load. They miss firsts, traditions, and holidays so the rest of the country doesn’t miss a thing.
So today, remember the ones who won’t see their kids open presents, won’t taste home-cooked meals, and won’t gather around a table with family.
To those keeping this country moving while the rest of us celebrate—
Merry Christmas. Stay warm. Stay safe. You matter. ❤️
