Fourth quarter, Super Bowl XIV, Pittsburgh trailing the Rams 19-17. Terry Bradshaw throws deep, John Stallworth runs under it, and 73 yards later the Steelers are ahead for good. They won 31-19.
Stallworth is the $3 old school option here. I passed on him because Joe Montana, Terrell Davis and Rob Gronkowski add up to exactly $12.
Mahomes and Kelce are the other build that's done this for real. They come to $9 and leave Davis or Marcus Allen at $3, and in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII Mahomes finished the winning drive with a 3 yard touchdown to Mecole Hardman.
Down 3 with the ball at your own 8 and just over three minutes left, Montana or Mahomes?

The tight end position has changed a lot over the decades, but these guys all redefined what it could produce as a receiver.

Shannon Sharpe became the first tight end in NFL history to top 10,000 career receiving yards, a total that stood as the position's gold standard for years.

Travis Kelce put together one of the most consistent stretches any tight end has ever had, racking up multiple 1,000 yard receiving seasons in a position that rarely produces more than one or two, while helping the Chiefs reach five Super Bowls.

Tony Gonzalez retired with more catches than any tight end in history at the time he left the game.

Who's your number one, Sharpe, Kelce, or Gonzalez.

Super Bowl XII ended Dallas 27, Denver 10, and the MVP went to two defensive linemen at once. Randy White and Harvey Martin split it, still the only time the award has been shared.

White gets my last $4. The Triplets cost $14 together, Emmitt Smith at $6 with Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin at $4 each, and that leaves exactly one $4 spot.

It means no Roger Staubach, no Tony Dorsett, no Bob Lilly and no Larry Allen. Lilly was the first player the Cowboys ever drafted, and Staubach won two Super Bowls of his own.

With no $3 player on the card, the only way to get Staubach in is to break up the guys who won three titles in four years. Swap him for Emmitt and it's $17.

Would you bench the league's career rushing leader to put Captain America back under center?

Philip Rivers started every game the Chargers played from 2006 through 2019. Only Brett Favre has a longer run of consecutive starts at quarterback.

He never got to a Super Bowl, and that's why he's $2 here. He's been tied to Eli Manning since the 2004 draft day trade, and Eli has two rings.

He came back to play for the Colts in 2025, then retired again this year with 425 touchdown passes and not one Super Bowl snap.

My $8 went to Tom Brady and Cam Newton. Is Rivers plus Aaron Rodgers for $7 the better room?

Minus 13 degrees at kickoff, final seconds, Dallas up 17-14. Jerry Kramer's block on Jethro Pugh opened the hole for Bart Starr's quarterback sneak, and the Packers won the Ice Bowl 21-17.

Kramer is on the bottom row with Hornung, Jim Taylor, Willie Wood and Jim Ringo, all five of them Lombardi guys. Starr is two rows up. Kramer didn't get into Canton until 2018, half a century after that block.

Don Hutson is on the second row, and he's the one I'd move. He retired in 1945 with 99 touchdown catches, and nobody passed that until Steve Largent in 1989.

Is there anyone else on this card who owned a record for 44 years after he quit?

Marcus Allen took a handoff on the last play of the third quarter in Super Bowl XVIII, ran left into trouble, reversed field and went 74 yards. He finished with 191, the Super Bowl record at the time.

He's $4 here, and so is Franco Harris, who ran for 158 yards and won MVP of Super Bowl IX two seasons after the Immaculate Reception. Either one is your ticket to a $5 quarterback like Brady, Montana or Mahomes.

My build is Denver's instead. John Elway at $4 and Terrell Davis at $5, the backfield behind the franchise's first two titles, with Davis 7-1 as a playoff starter and 2,008 rushing yards in 1998.

Would you take Montana handing off to Allen over a pair that actually won two rings together?

John Elway was 37 when he finally won one. He'd lost three Super Bowls in the '80s, all by 19 points or more, and then in January 1998 he took off on third down against Green Bay, got spun sideways in the air by the hit, and Denver won 31-24.
He won again the next year and was named MVP of Super Bowl ###III, his last game.

This card prices him at $3, which is how Tom Brady at $6 and Joe Montana at $5 both fit. That's 13 rings for $14.

In his first NFL game, on a Monday night in 1983, rookie Darrell Green ran down Tony Dorsett from behind. Dorsett was one of the fastest backs in football, and Green caught him anyway.
He played 20 seasons, every one of them in Washington, won two Super Bowls, and was still one of the fastest players on the field when he retired at 42.
He's $3, and that's the only kind of partner Deion Sanders or Darrelle Revis can have here. Either one plus Green or Aeneas Williams lands exactly on $8. Deion and Revis together is $10, so somebody's island gets left behind.

If Green's your guy, does he play beside Deion's gambles or Revis's island?

- Eric Dickerson wore prescription goggles because he was nearsighted, which somehow made him look faster coming at you. He ran for 1,808 as a rookie in 1983 and 2,105 the next year, then fought the Rams over money and got shipped to Indianapolis in the middle of the 1987 season in one of the biggest trades the league had ever done.

- Barry never held out, never got traded, never asked for anything, and quietly finished 52 yards behind that record in his best year. Dickerson was a downhill sprinter who happened to weigh 220 pounds. Sanders could stop dead and restart in a phone booth.
