It's with great sadness that I relay the news of the death of our long-time columnist and friend, Weston Bye. Wes died this August 24 at home, finally succumbing to the cancer he had been battling for the last few years.

Along with his Digital Machinist column, Wes had a number of articles published in The Home Shop Machinist. His articles included a variety of projects, some very complex, and I was always amazed at how he got it all done in time for each issue. Envisioning, designing, building, and then writing about his projects all was done while he had a full-time day job, I often wondered if he ever slept.

I was fortunate to not only be able to converse with Wes over emails and the phone, but also had the opportunity to spend time with him throughout the year, whether at hobby events or when he visited Northern Michigan on vacation. Over the years we became good friends and I always looked forward to his weekly calls. I tell people that the best part of my job is the people I get to meet and work with and Wes was at the top of that list.

Always busy and always thinking of the next project, Wes had a lot of plans for retirement but instead found himself confronted with a long and difficult battle for his health. He fought hard, with a realistic, yet positive attitude. May he rest in peace. - George Bulliss

Weston Carl Bye, just days short of age 71, died August 24, 2021 at his home in Grand Blanc, MI. He fought a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer, and succumbed just one month after being diagnosed with a second, more aggressive, brain tumor. Wes was born September 4, 1950
