Dear Friends, I see that people visit this page from time to time. NREC has folded up shop and passed our legacy and assets to the dynamic, energetic and effective new organization, Title Track, led by Seth Bernard and Holly Bird. Those of us who were involved with NREC are thrilled to have the work carried on and expanded. Please check out Title Track and consider supporting it with a donation or volunteering your time. "It's also been important to everyone involved with Title Track to bridge advocacy efforts in Northwest Michigan with Southeast Michigan. In the environmental movement up here, it's important to be aware of what people in frontline communities are facing, to protect the Great Lakes, but then to remember that there are folks in Detroit getting their water shut off and people in Flint paying outrageous costs for water that isn't safe five years after facing the same problems. So we're looking through the lens of environmental justice, and using music to connect the state."

As the Neahtawanta Center shapeshifts into Title Track, a new activist organization, it's fitting to listen to Bob Russell (original director of NREC) and Seth Bernard (new director of Title Track) as they talk/sing about the importance of building community and changing our ways. For those who loved Bob, it's a treat to hear his voice.
Enjoy! And we hope you'll support this new organization as it emerges to address issues state-wide, relating to water, racial equity and youth empowerment. Bob would love it.

Dear Friends, Many of you know this news already, but for those who don't, it is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I want to let you know that, after 31 years, NREC is disbanding and passing on our assets, endorsement and blessings to a new non-profit organization led by Seth Bernard called Title Track. The mission of this mostly young, activist group is 3-fold: Racial equity, youth empowerment and clean water for all. NREC will be officially folding up its tent on Dec. 31; however we still are hosting the Doing Our Own Work seminar series this coming winter (there are a few slots left) and will be in a transitional mode until June 21, 2019. Everything changes and evolves; letting go and empowering new energy to take over is bittersweet, but mostly sweet. Please stay tuned and support this new organization, regional in scope, that is filling a need to address and combine these crucial issues. For more information, contact the Neahtawanta Center ([email protected]) or Bernard. Thank you for your past support and being part of the NREC community. Blessed Be.

We work towards environmental sustainability and community resilience, upholding nonviolence and respect for all life. Right-sized, nimble, and responsive, the Neahtawanta Center has for more than 30 years served as a focus and facilitator of progressive Earth-centered education and activism, primarily in the Grand Traverse Region. With long experience, the Center is able to organize quickly and collaboratively around matters of concern. NREC collaborates with other local groups on activities and events, such as: speakers, rallies and marches on environmental, peace and justice issues; raising awareness on human rights concerns; and defending minority rights, including the LGBTQ community.
Current projects include:
Sponsoring workshops on issues relating to our mission such as: men’s and women’s retreats, nonviolence trainings, yoga workshops, end of life issues, community resilience and other topics related to our mission of creating a resilient, healthy and peaceful world.
The Beloved Community Network (BCN) launched in 2017 by NREC: connecting individuals and organizations who work to promote open dialogue, inclusion, civility, respect for all life, and celebration of diversity. Through the network, members can collaborate and support each others’ projects, activities and events. When a critical mass is needed to stand up, speak out, and defend human rights, the network serves to spread the word.
