This customer is learning a very expensive lesson. They decided to replace the water pump themselves. The lower drive unit shifter rod must be lined up correctly or it won’t slip all the way on. They used the bolts to pull the drive unit into place and bent the upper shift rod. They knew they had a problem when they couldn’t shift to either forward or reverse.

Now the entire power head has to be removed to make the repair. If you are not familiar with removing drive units, then DON’T mess with it. You will cost yourself thousands of dollars to repair the damage.

Arizona’s Nauti Tech will have this taken care of by this weekend.

I don’t know about you, but even with gas prices the way they are, we are going to have a great season, and celebrate the 250th birthday of the USA 🇺🇸

A customer got this picture of me while servicing their 2019 Nautique. These are great boats and are not exactly cheap. The customer was more than happy to learn some things they had not thought about, and the price was fair.

A little 6hp Mercury that I did for one of my customers relatives. I did this one for free. He is a retired senior and he doesn’t have the greatest means as far as money. He really wanted to see this engine run again and yes 👍 I do have a heart. ❤️

May he enjoy that his engine is running again and has been fully serviced. Especially in today’s world, pay it forward if you can!

This is what it is like when I work on your boat. I send you videos of the progress that is made throughout the entire process if you are unable to be present at the time of repairs. There are some gauge issues that still need to be addressed in this video, however the engine repair was accurate and it is running well again.

I should have taken some pictures of the spark plugs I removed. They were incorrect once the part numbers didn’t match up and the distributor cap was completely corroded. But hey, no one is perfect.

The rigging job with an outboard is important. This client hired someone to do the rigging for him. Well, his battery cables were excessively long and the excess was just tossed down into the bilge along with the oil supply lines and throttle and shift cables.

The result was everything mentioned above ended up sitting under water. The battery cables got sucked out of the rear of the bilge and nearly all the way to his prop. The positive cable rubbed through against the aluminum and created a short that could have started a fire 🔥 on the boat.

The client had no idea about this until he went to turn the key to start it and nothing happened. No power to the trim system either.

I got it all taken care of and nothing will be sitting in water anymore. Another happy client for Arizona’s Nauti Tech

Welcome to 2026! This year is going to be better than the last. The only bad news I have is that I have to raise the labor rate. The new rate will be $135/hr. I am forced to do this because of the amount of insurance and such that I am required to carry.

I made it my first year, but just barely. The trip fee will remain the same. I will still do the absolute best I can for the cost of parts, but this is a business and if I ever want to grow it I have to make money.

I made some mistakes my first year I will admit. But I have tried to remedy or make those mistakes right.

Thank you all again for supporting local small businesses just like mine. Our customers are life blood and we all strive to do the best we can.

So please 🙏 schedule your appointment now, before it is too busy or your boat decides to schedule it for you.

Yes 👍 I do some of the older outboards. This one had been sitting for quite a while. Nevermind the boat it is on right now. He wanted me to tell him whether or not the engine was any good. He couldn’t get any of the electrical to work at all.

He was shocked when within minutes I got the trim to work. Then after that I cleaned all of the battery connections and starter connections. I removed all of the spark plugs and sprayed Mercury Power Tune into each of the cylinders. Within another few minutes I had the starter working but the it was cranking slower than it should.

I removed the air intake cover for the carburetors and they are amazingly clean. I asked him to hold the throttle open while I operated the starter and used more Mercury Power Tune and PB Blaster into each carburetor inlet. He was amazed yet again as I was cranking it over and the engine began to spin faster and faster. I was able to prove that it has good compression.

Next visit I will have his new water pump impeller and new gear oil for the lower drive unit. And we will do an official start and run. More to come as time goes on. Arizona’s Nauti Tech can help you with your old outboard and many of the newer Mercury ones.
