📱 "How will I know how my horse is doing?" - Here's how we handle communication.

This is one of the first things new clients want to know, and we get it. Handing your horse off to a trailer and watching it drive away is a lot of trust.

Here's what communication looks like on a Straight Arrow haul:

📲 Before pickup- we set up a group message with all parties involved (owners on both ends, anyone who needs to be kept in the loop). This goes out at least 24 hours before we arrive when possible.

📲 During transport- we send updates at stops, share any relevant information, and you can reach us directly if you have questions.

📲 At drop-off- we confirm safe delivery.

📲 24–48 hours after drop-off- we check back in. Is your horse settled? Eating and drinking? Adjusted to the new surroundings? We want to know.

You won't be left wondering. That's the commitment.

🎒 Packing for your horse's haul? Here's what we actually recommend.

We've seen a lot of horses arrive over packed- and a few arrive under prepared. Here's a practical guide:

✅ SEND ALONG:
• Hay for the trip (they will have access onboard and when off loaded for layovers- familiar hay is always best, but we do have several options available if you prefer that)
• Any supplements or medications with clear instructions
• Pre-portioned, fully mixed and clearly labeled grain/ meals for the estimated duration of the trip + 2 days just in case
• A copy of your horse's paperwork (you can send digital versions via email ahead of time if digital is more your jam)
• Anything specific to your horse's routine that we should know about
• A clean, safe and functional halter
• Make sure that everything you send with your horse is clearly labeled and that people at pick up and drop off are aware of what should be coming and going with the horse

⚠️ SKIP THE SHIPPING BOOTS & WRAPS:
We don't recommend shipping boots or standing wraps unless your vet has specifically advised it for a medical reason. Improperly applied wraps in transit can cause more harm than good and wearing boots or wraps over long hauls can trap more heat than is beneficial.

⚠️ BLANKETS- USUALLY NOT NEEDED:
In most haul conditions, your horse doesn't need a blanket. If your vet recommends one for a specific health reason, let us know and we'll discuss it.

The most important thing you can send with your horse? Clear communication about their personality and needs. Does your horse load easily? Are they herd-bound? Any quirks we should know? Tell us.

When it's all said and done, we will accommodate your horse's individual needs- we just need to know what they are 😉

One of the most common hiccups in horse transport is missing or expired documentation. Here's what you need to have ready before your haul date:

🐴 COGGINS TEST
Required for interstate travel. Must be current- most states require it within the past 6–12 months.

🐴 HEALTH CERTIFICATE
Issued by a licensed vet, required within 30 days of travel for interstate movement. This one has an expiration date, so timing matters.

🐴 BRAND INSPECTION (where required)
Required in some western states. If your horse is branded, check whether your origin or destination state requires inspection paperwork.

To make things easy, we accept these either via email or in person at pick up.

Not sure what your specific states require? Ask your vet- they know the current regulations for your route. We're also happy to point you in the right direction.

Additionally, in recent months we have seen outbreaks of diseases and parasites that can impact your horse's ability to travel- some times additional paperwork maybe required if your horse is leaving or traveling to a quarantined area... and we 100% would need to be notified to be sure we will be able to safely transport your horse without affecting other horses in our care.
