I find researching the history of the area I model to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby. I have "Jamestown ND" saved as a search on eBay. Although this search most frequently results in common post cards, photos, and other trinkets, it does now and then yield very fruitful results.

Case in point, this photo shows an in approximately 1948. While this is interesting in itself from a perspective, the real gem is the in the background. I have modern photos of this elevator, in a much different configuration, but to find an older photo is a sure treat.

A Walthers PS-2CD covered hopper, originally , now patched for the leasor, TLDX. The Midland was a shortline operating out of Jamestown from 1912 to 1970.

MICO originally had 40 of these for a year (1964-65) before returning them, because they strayed off-line too often, as new cars often do. They were likely repainted soon, but I’ve taken some modelers license to make a ca. 1982 version.

Painted Rustoleum Moss Green, with K4 decals.

The last Friends of the Burlington Northern Railroad came in right after I’d bought one of the new kits. This yellow truck should be a fun and easy conversion, as the kit is well made and goes together easily. Ready to run trailers are also available.

Welcome everyone to the page of the layout. This layout represents the Jamestown yard in the early 1980's. Let's take a tour!

The layout room is a 10'x10' spare bedroom. The layout measures 10' on the top side, and 7ft on the right. The remainder of the room is not useable due to doors.

Starting at the left, we have open staging. This represents everything East of Jamestown, but primarily , , , and . The depot will allow me to stage the for photos.

Next we have . Industries here include: Dakota Block (top left), CH Carpenter lumber (below DK Block), the Jamestown Terminal (top center), and the Benson-Quinn Elevator (bottom center).

On the right we enter Jamestown yard. The was still in use in the early 80's so I'll include it here. Just below the turntable is the Jamestown ramp. To the left of the yard is the track.

I have included both tracks through Jamestown, as this allows for runaround moves, switching leads, and multiple trains running at once.

Track is currently a mix of Peco, Walthers, and Atlas Code 83. Control is NCE Powercab, combined with a radio antenna for more throttles. Structures are all an approximation, as I will and appropriate structures to fit.

Thank you all for visiting my page. Comments on the plan below are appreciated.
