And we have, courtesy of CDM Smith's Tony Cravey, progress photos from a big project in Atkinson County. This is the widening and reconstructing of 3.7 miles of US 441/SR 31 from north of CR 303/CR 225 to north of SR 520, creating a bypass around Pearson. This is an approximately $48 million construction contract. If you add in preliminary engineering and right of way costs, the project is about $55.8 million. More drone photos for you ... this is an 8.680 mile milling, resurfacing and shoulder rehab project on SR 182 in Ben Hill Co. It begins at SR 11 and ends at SR 107. I really like the second photo with the bridge because you can see the difference between the old surface on the right and the new asphalt. Resurfacing a two-lane road means traffic must be flagged in order for the work to be done, so thank you for your patience. Please continue to slow down and look out for workers. The current scheduled completion date is Oct. 31. The contractor is East Coast Asphalt LLC and the construction contract is about $2.46 million. Our district drone pilot Basil Dahman got a nice photo and better viewpoint of the newly-completed CR 3/Smithville Road bridge over Muckaloochee Creek in Lee Co. The new bridge is NOT more narrow than the old. The new bridge lanes are 11 feet wide and it has wider shoulders than the old bridge. Traffic recently shifted to a temporary on-site detour for replacement of three bridges on Ellenton Omega Road in Colquitt Co.:
Warrior Creek (built in 1939 and reconstructed in 1959); Warrior Creek overflow (built in 1959); and Ty Ty Creek (also built in 1959).

They are being replaced due to the ages of the bridges and because none meet current design standards. Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) bridge programs help replace bridges that aren't on the state highway system, which reduces the number of deficient or weight-posted bridges. These bridges will be replaced as part of the Department's Local Bridge Replacement Program.

The construction cost is approximately $11.7 million. Here's a look at the old bridge, built in 1970 and posted for weight limits, and your new bridge that meets current design standards. Big improvement! Here you go, Albany/Dougherty Co/Lee Co, the Westover Blvd roundabout in action. We're loving that you're loving it! It is an adjustment so please be patient with those drivers who might need a little more time to get it. Just pay attention to the signs and road markings and you'll be fine. It's a big operational improvement for the area. And isn't this just a good looking project? Dare we say, pretty? 😁 We thank you for your patience during construction. Another county road bridge has been completed as part of Georgia DOT's Design-Build Bridge Replacement Program. The County Road 82/Cox Rd bridge at Mossy Creek in Terrell Co. is open, replacing one that was built in 1950. The Design-Build program allows for replacement of local bridges deemed structurally deficient. Bridges are “bundled” into one contract to maximize efficiency and streamline delivery during final design and construction. Dougherty & Lee counties, the Westover roundabout and Extension are open! Please pay attention to the signs at the roundabout so you can exit at the right location/the direction you want to go. If you miss your opportunity, resist the urge to suddenly cut over. Just go ‘round the circle again. It’ll add maybe a second or two to your drive. 😁 Hope to have updated drone photos soon.

Colquitt Co. this traffic shift will be from US 319 to past Mike Horne Rd. It will put traffic in its final configuration. This means southbound traffic will be on the southbound side and northbound traffic will be on the northbound side. Traffic in both directions will be limited to one lane each while work continues on the adjacent lane. As part of the Southwest Georgia Bridge Replacement projects, crews are steadily progressing on the new CR 3/Smithville Road bridge over Muckaloochee Creek (see photo). The old bridge was built in 1970.

This bridge is anticipated to reopen to traffic early this year. Check out the latest bridge progress!

Another off-system bridge replacement opened in October 2024 in Randolph Co. The new CR 152/New Hope Road bridge over Pachitla Creek replaced a bridge that was built in 1966.

✨Project Milestone ✨

The Interstate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Connected Vehicle (CV) Implementation Project, Phase 1 has hit an incredible milestone — 55 miles of conduit installed! 🚧🔧💪 Phase 1 includes I-75 in Lowndes, Cook, Tift, Turner and Crisp counties in Southwest Georgia.

Over the next three phases, this project will expand 651 miles of network infrastructure along the interstate.

This achievement couldn't have been possible without the dedication, hard work, and teamwork of everyone involved. Thank you to our amazing crew and partners for their relentless efforts.
