Did you know that Texarkana Regional Airport was originally known as Texarkana Municipal Airport – Webb Field? It was born out of the region’s need for improved air transportation and was certified for operation in 1928. A year later, the first runways were constructed and made of sod. In 1930, the airport officially opened its doors to commercial air services, marking a significant milestone in the area’s transportation infrastructure. The first commercial passenger services were scheduled on June 15, 1931, in a Ford Tri-Motor aircraft. A couple of years later, Howard Webb established an agreement with the City of Texarkana, AR to oversee the Airport activities and constructed the Airport's first aircraft hangar. Because of his dedicated work in evolving the Airport, the Airfield was named in his honor. Mr. Webb's tenure lasted until 1969. In the decades to follow, as operations and construction continued developing and expanding on Airport grounds, the Airport Authority voted in 1986 to change the name to Texarkana Regional Airport, and it was then designated as a “Primary Airport” by the US Dept. of Transportation.
