The Market on Evans, this Saturday.

Tecumseh's Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM at 213 N Evans St, one and a half blocks north of Chicago Blvd. Third weekend of the season, vendors settled in.

What's typically there in late May: farm-fresh eggs, the first proper local produce of the season, baked goods, handmade crafts, and a few makers who travel route-to-route across Lenawee County.

Park downtown, walk over, build a picnic. Then walk back through the shops while you're already on foot.

30 minutes from Ann Arbor. 45 from Plymouth.

Two things happening in Tecumseh this weekend.

One is art. One is treasure hunting.

The 17th Annual Art Walk & Mural Blast runs May 15-16 - downtown merchants paired with local artists showing pottery, photography, and jewelry. Friday 6-9pm. Saturday 10am-5pm.

At the same time, Tecumseh's community-wide Garage Sales kick off May 14. Three days of buy-and-sell across town, starting at 9am.

You could easily spend the day doing both - browse the garage sales in the morning, catch the Art Walk in the afternoon.

Park once, walk everywhere. 25 miles from Ann Arbor.

Tecumseh's summer is about to get very full.

May through August, downtown Tecumseh has something happening almost every weekend - and most people 25 miles away have no idea.

Here's what's on the calendar:

Art Walk & Mural Blast (May 15-16). Classic Car & Bike Show - monthly through August. Wack-A-Doodle Day. Sun & Sand sculpture festival. Main Street Multiverse. Live Music in Adams Park all summer long.

Skip the drugstore chocolate. Get her the real thing.

Harvest Chocolate on West Chicago makes bean-to-bar chocolate from scratch right in the shop. Single-origin bars with just two ingredients. Seasonal flavors with Michigan cherries and herbs. All vegan and gluten-free.

Grab a curated gift box, add a candle from Matthews House Shop down the street, and you just nailed Mother's Day without setting foot in a mall.

She'll ask where you found it. You'll sound like a genius.

Tecumseh is a 30-minute drive and a world away.

No crowds. Free parking. A downtown you can walk end to end in 10 minutes - but you won't, because you'll keep stopping.

Matthews House Shop for handmade home goods. Cottage Door for Michigan-themed everything. Harvest Chocolate for bean-to-bar seasonal bars made right in the shop. Tecumseh Bread & Pastry for pastries made with flour they mill themselves.

Grab lunch. Wander. Buy something you didn't know you needed.

That's the whole plan. That's enough.

Mother's Day is 3 weeks out. Just saying.

Skip the gift card. Skip the chain restaurant brunch. Tecumseh has something better.

Book afternoon tea at The British Pantry for the full white-tablecloth-scones-and-finger-sandwiches thing. Pick up handcrafted jewelry at Patina. Grab a box of seasonal bean-to-bar chocolate from Harvest Chocolate - vegan, gluten-free, and way better than anything at the mall.

That's a gift, a meal, AND a day out - all in one trip.
