That's a big Lionfish!

King-sized lionfish breaks record
A state record-breaking lionfish has been caught, weighing 3.38 pounds! The previous record-holding lionfish by weight was 3.2 pounds. Congrats to David Forrester for removing this king-sized invasive lionfish from Florida waters.

Happy World Turtle Day!

Happy World Turtle Day!
Appreciate our armored animal life! Here in Florida, you may encounter a wide variety of turtles, including sea turtles, freshwater turtles and the gopher tortoise. Turtles and tortoises wear amazing armor as they swim in fresh or salt water, or navigate across land. Generally, they do best if you leave them alone. However, it is OK to help a tortoise cross a road. Just pick it up, hold it away from you so you won’t get splashed by “natural waterworks” and gently place it on the side of the road where it was headed. Just please, please don’t disturb turtles and tortoises -- and don’t take them home! They need to move around, swim or park their armored bodies in natural habitats to survive.

Lionfish are an invasive species that have a potential negative impact on native wildlife and habitat. FWC encourages divers, anglers and commercial harvesters to remove lionfish in Florida waters to limit negative impacts to native marine life and ecosystems.
