This a very long video about tipping on cruises which I think is worth watching. I personally leave the ship gratuities on AND tip extra to my room attendant and bartender if they make a good old fashion. It really, really, really bothers me when cruisers remove the automatic gratuities since those are divided up to all the behind the scenes crew. If you want clean linens, help getting on & off tenders, smooth docking, fresh food on clean dishes, then I think you should leave the gratuities on.
