The sun is up, there’s a stir across the land and so begins another day.
As the sun rises and the coffee cups fill, it’s the start of another work week and working people are coming to life.
This morning on my way to work I took notice of all the people I meet on my morning commute. The pickup trucks with ladders and shovels. The trailers with lawnmowers and rakes. The skid steers and the bobcats. The hard hats, the high vis shirts and vests, the water coolers, the tool boxes and the lunchboxes… You are Appreciated!!

It’s important to stay ahead of cold weather, because it is coming! Now is the time to prepare.

1. Keep a check on your tires! Colder temperatures will affect tire pressure. Tire pressure can drop up to 1 pound per square inch for every 10°F drop in temperature. Low tire pressure can affect traction, resulting in loss of control and can also have a big effect on fuel consumption.

2. Make sure your batteries are in top shape. Weak batteries are more apt to fail in freezing temperatures. Have your batteries checked and make sure your connections are snug and without corrosion.

3. What should be a given is often neglected, draining your air tanks daily. Accumulation of moisture in the tank can lead to corrosion, reducing efficiency. In freezing temperatures, any moisture in the tanks can freeze blocking air flow to valves and brake chambers increasing the risk of brakes locking up or not engaging at all.

4. Check all your fluids. Ensure coolant levels are full and the coolant has sufficient antifreeze. Same with windshield washer fluid. Use a washer fluid that won’t freeze the instant it hits the glass and make sure to keep your reservoir full. When you get slapped with mud and muck on the windshield, a proper working windshield wiper/ washer system is crucial. Driving blind never works out well. Also keep at least a half tank of fuel. Check with your shop before adding any type of additive.

5. Clear any ice or grime off glass, lights and reflectors. It’s not always about what you can see. It is also about being seen. In TN drivers can be cited for not clearing their glass of ice and snow.

Remember - your safety and the safety of others is of the utmost importance when driving!
Don’t jeopardize your own safety, but help those in need when you can. If the highway gets shut down for an extended period of time, remember not everyone is prepared. Freezing to death is not an option. Your kindness will be remembered and talked about long after the snow is gone.

Tennessee has officially reclassified I-40 as an endurance sport after experts confirmed no normal highway should require this much patience. 😂
Driving I-40 in Tennessee starts innocently enough.
You get on the highway thinking you’ll make good time.
Five minutes later, you’re behind a semi doing 62, another truck is passing at 63, and somehow you’ve entered a convoy where nobody knows who’s actually in charge.
Then you see them.
THE ORANGE BARRELS.
Not one.
Not ten.
ALL OF THEM.
Lanes disappear. Speed limits drop. Traffic slows to the speed of a lawn mower, and you start wondering if the construction project has been going on since the interstate was built.
Then comes the classic Tennessee combination:
A rough patch of pavement that shakes your entire vehicle.
A pickup truck riding your bumper.
A driver changing lanes at the last possible second.
And a sign that says:
ROAD WORK AHEAD
You’ve seen that sign so many times you’re starting to think it should be on the Tennessee state flag. 😂
And just when you think you’re finally making progress…
ANOTHER LANE CLOSES.
No toll.
No fancy tunnel.
Just Tennessee.
Mountains on one side.
Trees on the other.
Orange barrels straight ahead.
And you, quietly wondering why a 20-minute drive has somehow become a character-building experience.
Welcome to I-40 in Tennessee. 🇺🇸
We don’t charge you a toll.
We charge you in patience. 😂🚧

What do you do if the power goes out while you're driving and the traffic lights aren't working?

If you are driving and you approach an intersection in which traffic lights are not working, treat the intersection as a 4-way stop!
