School's Out for the Summer and with that comes Summer Vacations!! Yippee. Sadly, many will never make their destinations. Don’t let the excitement of getting away cause you to lose focus on your driving. Plan your trip and your route before you head out. If you have deadlines for flights, check ins, or sightseeing, always allow yourself extra time for traffic jams and potty breaks. Arriving early is better than not arriving at all. When you find yourself running behind schedule because of unforeseen circumstances, you will oftentimes take risks that can jeopardize your entire family and others around you.
Motorists still traveling locally and to and from work, be extra cautious around vacationers. When you see a vehicle with luggage strapped on top or out of state plates, drive expecting the unexpected. Sudden braking or swift lane changes are likely from motorists not familiar with the area, and not fully prepared when you have hungry kids yelling “there’s a McDonald’s” often oblivious to anyone else on the highway.
Stay alert, drive defensively, and by all means don’t become a statistic!
