1. Rick has been tinkering on a Yamaha 650 toy that he acquired. ❤️

2. A good customer purchased this boat last year and has used it a bunch. Fires right up and runs great……. Lately after having used it with no issues in the last few days he starts it up and the shift lever goes into gear, the engine runs, but it won’t take gear. He brought it in, we ran it in a tank, works great. Shifted it 20 times, takes gear every time. Cables are good, remote shifts smoothly, nothing loose in the linkage, and yet occasionally he said it just decides it won’t take gear. We will check it out more next week.

Eric from US Distributing (England Marine) came by and brought us some samples of some new supplies they have in. We will be checking them out soon. Eric is a great guy sand US Distributing is a go to for us for parts. The whole crew is just great!

Went in this morning to meet with a customer picking up a motor.

Rick came in and he and I checked out the 130 Johnson that came in yesterday. Then I helped Terry (just kind of guided him through the vacuum on his OMC 90 and then watched as he rebuilt the carbs and reinstalled them. He also installed new plugs in it. I love the meticulous job he does on everything he works on. Very talented mechanic.

Looking forward to seeing how well this engine runs.

130 hp Johnson 2 stroke. Customer took this boat to a shop who told them the motor was junk and not worth saving. It had sat for a long time. We checked spark and compression both were good. The fuel was a nasty in the filter and it t had some fuel leaks. We drained the carbs. Flushed them, charged the battery and after a few minutes it fired up. We didn’t run it but a few seconds. Spoke to the customer and see will do a full tune up on it and get it back to them. Great motors.

First run of this 90 hp OMC ! Hasn’t been tuned up yet, but it fires up and runs. It’s a win.

Rick worked on these two boats. Carried part of it over from yesterday. Working through some bugs on the 115 hp OMC and then the Sea Ray came in this morning. It also has a 115 OMC.

The Sea Ray was very rated on the customer and they brought it to us to check out and fix. They also said the starter switch was hit or miss sometimes. Today Rick and Terry pulled the plugs and tried to check compression. Starter was dragging, it appeared to have corrosion on the battery cables, cleaned all of those and then tested it again. Still struggling to turn the engine to test everything. They added a known good set of cables and turned it over again. Still not turning quickly. They then drained the lower unit to make sure it wasn’t binding. It has water in it. Tried to check compression but the engine isn’t turning fast enough.

Conclusion for today: We will scope the cylinders on Monday and see how it looks inside. There is evidence that it had gotten pretty hot on the top cylinders. Sprayed some penetrating oil in the cylinders and we will let it set over the weekend. I will keep you posted on this one as we continue to diagnosis it.

2000 Mercury 5 hp 4 stroke. 1 cylinder.

Motor is used in salt water, always a fun time. Heat and patience and the bolts came out. The driveshaft had so much exhaust build up it took several tries to get it out of the housing. Cleaned up the driveshaft and inside the housing to the best of our ability. Rick Replaced the impeller and greased everything up. Replaced the seals on the drain and vent screw and the gear oil.

It didn’t go back much easier than it came out. Got it back together and then on to the rest of the motor.

Drained and changed the motor oil. Changed the spark plug. Gapped it to proper gap. Removed the carb and cleaned it, it was pretty dirty. Got it all cleaned and back together. Removed the fuel filter and cleaned it out and reinstalled it.

Test ran the motor, adjusted the carb and all is good. Ready for a few more years of service.

Cleaned the carb, replaced the impeller and gear oil. Also replaced the spark plug. This motor had been used in salt water often, so everything took longer than it should have to get it all apart and back together.
