HEADS UP DRIVING
Not normally someone who makes posts like this, but I am shaking, crying, pi**ed and still sitting at my office in my car this am processing what just happened.
With the 81 southbound lane closed while repair is being done they are rerouting all the traffic down 14 and across 8. This am I met probably 35 trucks between my house and Superior and they weren’t the normal grain trucks that frequent our area. If you travel any of these roads PLEASE WATCHOUT!
A few minutes ago on the east side of Superior on Hwy 8 one of the semis pulling a van trailer decided to pass a tractor without checking for oncoming traffic on a bridge and curve. Had I glanced away or not been paying attention for even a split second it would have been a head on collision. However I was able to take the shoulder and go part way down into the ditch while slamming on my brakes to get out of the way. Had this been a couple seconds later I’d have been on the bridge with no where to go but thankfully I wasn’t.
Please watch out as a lot of these trucks seem to be in an extreme hurry to make up time for the detour and may make stupid decisions that could last a lifetime. I own a trucking company so I get wanting to get where you are going and detours are pains, but that isn’t an excuse for poor decisions on the road.
Please, please make sure you are paying attention and let your kids know who travel those roads to be extra cautious and aware of their surroundings while driving. Glad this is only for a short amount of time, but be safe!
