Carlsbad Caverns National Park, NM🪨

By far the biggest cavern we've been to yet!! We chose to take the elevator 80 stories down as opposed to the 1.25mile hike down. We did the self guided tour which was a first for us in a cave. It made for a really awesome experience to be able to go at our own pace. I even got a mini meditation in at a seating area🧘🏼‍♀️ The rail in the cavern is also 1.25 miles which is a nice little walk. My favorite part was seeing some of the structures glittering in the light as you walk past.

The drive up to the visitor center was breath taking. We plan on going back to walk a trail they have there as well. New Mexico has been so much more beautiful than I ever imagined 💚

Texas, it's been real✌️💙

So far, Texas has had the absolute BIGGEST and most beautiful sky🌤️ There is more sky than land and zero buildings blocking your view.

The landscape from east to west has been the biggest variation we've seen. I mean it is an enormous state so this makes sense but to experience it is more than the logic of it.

We got to see tons of ranches, cows, horses, goats, wind turbines, cactus, oil fields, refineries and even a few cowboys. Oh and let us not forget about seeing our very first otter run across the road when we left the beach 😍 I have seen a few tumbleweeds on the side of the road but I'm still holding out to see one tumbling across the road😆

Now we're on the road heading to Carlsbad, NM for a few days. Hopefully we'll get to do some cave exploring and make a visit to Roswell to visit with the fam👽🛸🤞🤞

Walling Bend Park, Clifton, TX⭐

Houmas House & Whitney Plantation LA

If I'm being honest, I'm not sure what to say about the Houmas House. It was certainly beautiful. We were told about the Native American Houmas tribe trading the land to 2 men and teaching them to work the land. We learned about the various changes and additions made to the house by the various owners.

One really cool thing that was there was a real vampire hunting kit. I forget what the guide said as far as why it was there but I do remember her mentioning the late Anne Rice finding them to have accuracy in her books.

Whitney Plantation is the only plantation down here to highlight the lives of Slaves. It was heart wrenching and painful to hear and see some of the things they had to endure. However, I felt it was and is a necessary stop for anyone looking to visit plantations since the others glaze over the atrocities that occurred on their land.

Whitney had many moving art installations and memorials. There were walls upon walls of the names of men, women and children that they could find records of with so many left nameless and lost in time. I am grateful to Whitney Plantation for doing what it can to keep the story of Slaves alive so that we may not forget or repeat our past.
