Sunriver Airport Runway CLOSURE

We are going to close the runway from May 23rd to June 28th, weather permitting, to resurface the runway. There will be no dimension changes to the runway; it will be a simple scrape, grind, re-rock and re-pave job. We hope to finish sooner than the posted date. If that is the case, we will make a new post saying such and we will drop the NOTAM.

For safety reasons, we cannot allow takeoff/landings from the taxiway, ramp or driveway.

Plan accordingly for alternate travel during these dates.

Best,

S21 Team

The Sunriver Airport Runway will be closed July 12th at 7am until July 13th at 3pm local time. We will be stripping and repainting the runway. Please plan accordingly.

The Sunriver airport’s runway edge lights are now operational. We’re very sorry for the delay in this project, but finding available parts and having them shipped expediently is ridiculously difficult these days.

The runway edge lights are LED with variable intensity settings. There are low (3 clicks), medium (5 clicks) and high (7 clicks) settings for your desired lighting needs! You should also note that new LED rotating beacon is also activated by the runway edge lights. Therefore, the beacon is no longer running from dusk until dawn. We can change this back if it becomes necessary. But, in an attempt to be good neighbors, we felt it better to only be on when needed. Further, the lights are on a 15 minute timer.

We are still waiting on parts for the PAPIs. We have no time table to share for this installation. However, as soon as we get everything up and running, we will reach out.

Again, sorry this project took so long, but they look really good!

Best,
S21 Team

Runway Closure NOTAM Canceled - Runway 18/36 Open

To whom this may concern,

99% of the work is done with the new runway/taxiway lighting system. However, we’re waiting on electrical parts to be able to commission the lights. We’re told that those parts should arrive next week.

Having said that, the runway is now open. The NOTAMs for closure have been canceled. NOTE – Lighting systems still decommissioned.

You should see the runway/taxiway lights being commissioned in the near future.

Concerning the new PAPIs on 18 and 36, we’re waiting on parts to be able to commission those systems, too. We’re told that those parts should arrive mid-December. Once we receive those parts, we will work on commissioning these systems as well.

Sunriver Airport Runway Closure Dates

To whom this may concern,

The construction along the runway will start this Thursday, Sept 30th with a closure window of 9am to 4pm local time. The runway will also be closed Friday, Oct 1st with a closure window of 9am to 1pm local time. These are the two NOTAMs:
• S21 RWY 18/36 CLSD 2109301600-2109302300
• S21 RWY 18/36 CLSD 2110011600-2110012000

Also on Thursday, Sept 30th the runway edge lights (REDL) will be decommissioned, as will the VASI lights on runway 18. Please note that once the lights are decommissioned, they will be unavailable until we commission the new lights. You will see these two NOTAMs:
• S21 SVC PCL RWY 18/36 REDL DECOMMISSIONED 2109301600-PERM
• S21 RWY 18 VASI DECOMMISSIONED 2109301600-PERM

The runway will be open Friday at 1pm through the weekend. Starting the week of Oct 4th (Monday), we will be closing the runway from 9am to 4pm Monday thru Thursday. The runway will be closed on Fridays from 9am to 1pm local time. This set of closures will continue weekly for roughly 4 weeks’ time. Again, the runway will be open on the weekends as we will not be doing construction work on Saturdays and Sundays. You will see these two NOTAMs:
• S21 RWY 18/36 CLSD MON-THU 1600-2300 2110041600-2110292300
• S21 RWY 18/36 CLSD FRI 1600-2000 2110041600-2110292000

Currently we have the A3 connector from the taxiway to the runway closed. However, that NOTAM will be lifted soon as the excavator is nearly finished with the area. There will be other NOTAMs for closures of connectors in the coming days as the excavator will be digging trenches adjacent to the taxiway and runway. All areas affected will have low level barricades to keep you away from the open ditches.

At a later date, I will reach out to notify you of the commissioning of our new lights and PAPI systems and their operation.

Best,
S21 Team

We sent this email last night concerning a couple of NOTAMs we put up:

The construction crew started digging trenches for electrical along the taxiways today (Thursday, a couple of days early). Therefore, you will see this NOTAM: S21 TWY A BTN TWY A1 AND TWY A5 WIP CONST ADJ BARRICADED 2109232037-2109272300. If you’re familiar with NOTAM shorthand, you know that means construction work is in progress adjacent to the taxiway A between the A1 connector and the A5 connector. The areas affected are barricaded to guide you along. There should be no factor for aircraft taxiing along the taxiway. You will also see this NOTAM: S21 TWY A3 CLSD FOR CONST 2109232032-2109272300. That means that the A3 connector between Taxiway A and the runway is closed. There are barricades keeping aircraft off the A3 Connector. If you’re not familiar with A3, it’s the connection to the runway at midfield. A1 (North end), A2 (near the displaced threshold), A4 (connector just South of midfield) and A5 (South end) are open. The runway is open, there just happens to be construction vehicles near the taxiway.

Notice that the NOTAMs are scheduled to end on Monday at 4pm. Monday morning, the construction crew and the airport will discuss the weeks’ work and update information as necessary.

09/21/2021

The airport will be upgrading the runway lights starting the week of Sept 27th and continuing for approximately 6 weeks’ time, weather dependent. The first week will mostly be prep work to prepare for the digging process. However, starting the following week (roughly the week of Oct 4th) we will need to close the runway each week thereafter for the digging process. The closures will be during daytime hours only, from 9am to 4pm M-Th and 9am to 1pm on Friday. The runway will be open the mornings and evenings daily. On Saturday and Sunday, the runway will be completely open. We are planning for the digging process to take roughly 4 weeks, weather dependent. In addition, once we start removing the old lights, there will be no runway (or VASI) lights for the duration the project. The lights (and VASI) will be NOTAM inoperable for the duration until the new lights are completely operational. Instead of VASI lights on only RWY18, we will be installing PAPI lights on both RWY18 and RWY36.

With this plan, we are trying to keep the airport open as much as possible, while observing Sunriver Owners Association rules concerning outdoor work hours.

If there are any changes to the schedule, we will pass along any information as soon as we are able. Please note that most of this work is very fluid. We might find that digging a trench for 2 miles, laying conduit, pulling electrical lines, and burying light cans every few hundred feet is easier than anticipated. It might take longer. We will do our best to keep everyone up to date. We will do that via Email, Facebook, NOTAM and our website. We also realize that this might not be convenient for some. Hopefully one can utilize hours outside the closure to their benefit.

Things to Note:
• Runway closures will be M-TH 0900-1600 and Friday 0900-1300
• Once the old runway lights are down, they will be inoperable for the duration
• Once the old VASI lights are down, they will be inoperable for the duration
• New lights will be LED, pilot controlled with various intensity settings (3, 5, 7 clicks)
• New PAPI lights will replace VASI lights on RWY18
• New PAPI lights on RWY 36
• NOTAMs will have the most relevant dates

Best,
S21 Team

Ramp Map!

Some information on our ramp in Sunriver:

Smaller GA aircraft are to park in one of 55 "T" tiedown positions labeled on the map above. These tiedown positions have 8 foot wing chains and 6' tail chains that will fit most aircraft. If you're a tall 185, or even a beaver on floats, we do have chain extenders. Just ask us to bring out a set. We have a golf cart that we will try using to pick customers up at their planes, too. Be patient, as we are usually busy in the summer. Otherwise, it's a short 90 second walk south to the FBO. Please note that the concrete pads are for larger and heavier aircraft. We'd appreciate it if smaller aircraft would not park on the concrete pads, or, for that matter, on the taxiway in front of the FBO. We realize that the ramp may look empty at times, and you might be in a hurry, but in an interest of safety, flow and our sanity... Just don't do it. NOTE: This is a private airport, pilots and aircraft can be trespassed from the property.

We built two new helicopter parking pads for their self-described use. Please don't try to park your helicopter next to the GA aircraft, Jets or near the Self Serve Fuel. Unless they are looking to get a new paint job, you might make someone cranky - and for good reason. Currently, and specifically because of this issue, we don't allow self-serve fuel for helicopters. That will change once we move the fuel farm from it's current location. We'll tell you more about the new location later.

In the field south of the helicopter parking pads is a large open area for fire fighting operations. We are constructing a new gate for various federal, state and local department's support vehicle's access. The road is in place already.

Finally, we're going to start building a new FBO soon. You'll see some information on that coming in the next few months. Our hope is that we start clearing the area this fall, 2021.

We are closing the A3 connector to the runway and the old apron starting Friday August 14th, 2020 at 6am local time. The area will be prepared for resurfacing. Paving should take place early September. As soon as we get closer to a firm date for paving, it will be disseminated.

At this time we will be keeping a taxi lane open from the Camp Abbot t-hangars to the taxiway for A4 and A5. Once we get a date for the closure of this area, it will be sent out to hangar owners through the president of the association. We are trying to make the closure as short as possible and are waiting to the last possible moment.

There WILL BE a need for aircraft to back-taxi for arrival and/or departure as the entire center of the airport will be closed. I’ve attached a diagram for those that are more visual.

There are always struggles with transient pilots who aren’t very vigilant, or struggle with their preparation and NOTAMs – use caution. Please use patience and good radio communication.

We’ve submitted NOTAMs for the above closures.
