You never knew what you may see when riding our trains through Niles Canyon. How about two different vehicles both made by different divisions of General Motors in 1949. Our Southern Pacific Electromotive Division 1949 built NW-2 #1423 locomotive as its works our train west toward Niles across our Brightside crossing with a '49 Cadillac Series 62 convertible just waiting its turn again for the open road. Two from the Class of '49. And did we mention, Dads love cars and trains, and we have tickets for this upcoming weekend including Father's Day available. We will leave a link to purchase your tickets for the weekend online today.

We noted the blue flags up on one of our storage flags and wandered down last Saturday to find our Rio Grande stock car getting new paint on its frame. Not the easiest job, but volunteer, Joe C., is in there literally and figuratively. Once the frame is done, a new wood floor will be installed. This will then let us more easily work on the upper part of the car which will see new paint and wood.

With most of the welding complete on the car, our 'Hidden Lake' restoration team has been accelerating their paint preparation on this side of this Great Northern Ranch Car. It won't be long until paint starts to fly, and we would welcome your donation to help offset the cost. We will leave a link in the comments where you can donate online or via mail. This is really exciting as the other side of the car is already done.

Our recently promoted conductor, Gabe G., had the helm of our trains this Saturday. It is great to have such a great new group of volunteers working their way through the ranks to leadership positions with our train crews. And he chose to do it on his birthday as well!

Our crews hope you will join us soon for a scenic train ride as soon as next weekend. We will leave a link to tickets in the comments.

Thanks Secret San Francisco for the nice article on visiting and riding our railroad. We hope we are not too much of a secret as we will celebrate our 40th Anniversary in Niles Canyon next year. Yet, we hope new people will join us for a ride this summer and fall!

1 hour from SF: This 150-year-old railway has started running passenger train rides on select weekends — NPS calls it one of the 'best preserved segments of the First Transcontinental Railroad in the western U.S.' 🚂

They are working on the railroad. Our Wednesday Maintenance-of-Way Team is out today replacing ties in our railroad which needs constant maintenance to keep it in top shape. New volunteers are always welcome to join this team. It’s great exercise! We will leave a link to our Volunteer page in the comments.
