SWRTA is the public transportation provider in Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter counties. Shuttle services to Cherryvale and Shaw Air Force Base communities.

SWRTA is excited to offer the following services to our passengers:

Fixed-route bus and ADA services in the City of Sumter. SmartRide services to Columbia from the Sumter and Kershaw areas. Happy Holidays!

Please be advised that the SWRTA offices will be closed and all services will be suspended on the following days in observance of the holiday season:

Thursday, December 25, 2025
Thursday, January 1, 2026

Additionally, SWRTA will operate on a reduced schedule on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The following routes will not operate on those days:

Route 40 | North Main | 5:00pm
Route 44 | Sumter SmartRide | 2:45pm
Route 52 | 521 Express | 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm
Route 80 | Voc Rehab | 4:10pm
Route 90 | Broad Street | 4:10pm and 5:10pm

We will operate on regular schedule on December 26th and January 2nd.

We encourage you to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements as needed.

It’s cold but our operators are out making sure the vehicles are nice and warm!

Announcement | Route Suspension

Due to the condition of the roads, SWRTA has suspended all transit services today.

Tomorrow’s service will be contingent on the condition of the roads, later today. At a minimum, transit service will be delayed until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Announcement | Route Suspensions

To ensure the safety of our passengers and employees, we are suspending services at 5:00 p.m. today.

Weather permitting, we will begin service for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

There may be an exception for a few dialysis and cancer center patients, once those facilities are open tomorrow.
