There was a time when something as simple as a haircut felt overwhelming.
My oldest son, who is on the autism spectrum, struggled tremendously with haircuts. In those early years, every appointment required patience, understanding, and more than a little prayer. There were times when he was so overwhelmed that I had to gently hold him with both my arms and legs just to keep him safe while he screamed through the haircut. As a mother, those moments were heartbreaking, and I often wondered if it would ever get easier.
More recently, my youngest son was also diagnosed with autism, though his needs are much milder.
To every parent walking a similar journey: it gets better. The difficult seasons don’t last forever.
Today, I’m sitting in the barbershop, peacefully working while both of my boys get their haircuts. Moments like this remind me how blessed I am and how much progress can happen with time, patience, love, and the right support.
