Where's Karen been? I didnt post last week but I was on a 7-day trip in the state of New York.......not the city! It was a shared Kokomo/Good News Travels trip with six from southern Indiana coming along.
Our destination was Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes.

Our two groups molded together as one and we all enjoyed the nice weather plus we experienced so many new destinations!

I didnt know anything about this region until Kathy and I went to a travel conference in Buffalo a few years ago. I'm so glad we partnered up and took the plunge. Eleven vertical lakes that look like fingers and all having lakefront view. Check out a map.

Started at the Comedy Museum. Tried to give Kathy some lessons...lol

We saw Lucille Balls hometown and stayed at the Chatauqua Harbor Hotel. (One of the best we've ever stayed!)

Got wet on the Maid of the Mist

Learned about George Eastman - Kodak fame

Walked the Sonnenburg Gardens

Shopped at the amazing Corning Ware store and Museum

Learned all about Harriet Tubman and William Seward

Viewed three waterfalls in Ithaca and did a driving tour through Cornell University campus.

Saw 4 of the 11 Finger Lakes

Ate crepes for breakfast and had dinner at the Belhurst Castle

A highlight for me was the National Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. I forgot how much I followed baseball when I was in high school even before I met Charley.

I know I'm missing a lot but here's s cross section off all the photos.....

Hi, my name is Johhny Cash!

We took our Beef and Boards trip today to see Walk the Line- a Johnny Cash tribute story.

Lots of hit tunes and a story line with music to match that tume in his life. The main thing we noticed was the musicianship. They played up to a total of 15 different instruments. Lots of Johhny Cash fans on the bus. We had 59 total counting the people we met up in Indy!

Heading to Niagara Falls next week along with the Finger Lakes and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. We are definitely in the thick of travel season!!

Thoughts on Santa Fe after our city tour and free time at the Plaza.

Pueblo or Santa Fe Revival Style Architecture

Adobe rounded stucco
One level buildings
1957 ordinance passed to keep historic look.
All new buildings must use that fascade.

Heavy Catholic presence. Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assissi is the center of the town.

Native Indian Presence. They sell their homemade jewelry at the Plaza daily.

Santa Fe Trail was used for commerce. No trains or river presence.

Thats your history lesson for the day!

We had a nice final trip meal last night. What a great group. Success on a trip is where everyone starts knowing people without their name tags. Success!

Full day of flights then time off until Ring of Fire at Beef and Boards on Thursday.

Our 2nd train ride was the Cumbries and Toltec Line. Funny fact is that we winded between the Coloradi and New Mexico borders 11 times during this trip.

Just like the mine workers back in the day, our halfway stop included an all you can eat meal with all the fiixins. Believe it or not, they were so organized between the meat loaf and the turkey line that everyone had their food within 20 minutes! When we heard the four big train whistle blows, we knew we had 10 minutes before the train departed.

Relaxing day and this train had narration.

Observation; These areas reminded me of Alaska. Untouched beauty and scenery.

The star of the sun was the sky and clouds.

We made it to Santa Fe. City Tour today with shopping ar the Plaza and our last group meal tonight. We have become an official travel family where "everybody knows your name."

Apologies again, the camera wouldn't stop clicking.

Everyone dreams of a train ride. I've been on several and truthfully, some are disappointing and boring. Our Alaskan McKinley Explorer was excellent and modern.

Yesterday, we boarded the Durango Silverton Train. It was the older shaky train and not very comfortable....BUT then we started seeing the scenery and WOW! Our heads were hanging out the windows. Just be prepared for a lot of scenery pics!

We stopped at Silverton for lunch. Very nice stop with plenty of restaurants and shoppes.
Our drive back was on the million dollar highway with some more scenery. Very nice day!

Heading to Santa Fe.

Mesa Verde National Park is located around the four monument area of Colorado/New Mexico/Arizona/Utah. It was established in 1906 and is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

We visited three levels of Pueblo Native American dwellings. They grew in size to the gigantic cliff dwellings built over thousands of years ago. We never give the past enough credit. Such ingenuity!

The day ended with a cowboy meal and a really funny, talented cowboy music show. We heard songs like "Mariah", "Rawhide", "Happy Trails" and "Devil Went Down to Georgia." Good way to finish the day.

The Colorado River is very low this year! Our raft ride was pretty calm but we still got a little wet. What a 360 degree scenery! Nice cowboy lunch with all the fixins. Tried to get pictures of all the boats but failed! Those oarsmen had to have muscular arms!

Got to swim in the hotel pool last night and relax. On our way to Mesa Verde, Colorado today. Stopped at an interesting place appropriately called Hole in the Rock! We didn't take the tour but a family lived inside the big rock for years.

Made a quick photo stop at Wilson's Arch. Wow!

Wow! Arches National Park. So many things to see immediately when driving through the park! Landscape changed to so many interesting shapes and figures! You look up and then see the sunshine peeping through different arches.

Loved the balancing rock. We saw the iconic Moab Arch from a distance and walked to two of the biggest ones. Of all our trips, this had the biggest concentration.

More posts later with our raft ride down the Colorado River.

Oh...and the weather has been fantastic. Nice summer breeze.

Left Salt Lake City for Canyonlands and Dead Horse State Park.

Utah only has 3 million people compared to Indiana with 7 million. So mountainous!

We made two stops with spectacular scenery. The Grand Canyons of Utah.

Our evening pontoon ride on the Colorado River was so calm and beautiful. We saw so many constellations. Open sky!

Be ready for tons of scenery pictures!

Arches and raft ride today.
