Reminder: the Lamar Co. Airport Authority Board of Directors meets at 4pm this afternoon at Sulligent City Hall. The meeting is open to all local public officials, business people, and citizens with an interest in the future of our county's airport. Agenda items will include a review of recent property improvements and ALDOT inspection, "Grand Opening" planning, and other business. We hope to see you there!

The Lamar County Airport Authority’s Board of Directors met on Thursday, June 26, in Vernon. Authority Board members present included Andy Johnson, Will Gilmer, Jason Burks, and Judge David Boyett. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and accepted as was a report on recent contributions and expenses.

Mayor Glenn Crawford reported recent airport maintenance work performed by the City of Vernon included bush-hogging, painting numbers on the ends of the runway, and installing a new windsock. Mayor Crawford has been in touch with ALDOT and expects them to perform a site inspection the first week of July.

Other items of discussion included social media and marketing, organizing a public grand opening ceremony, the formation of a governing board, and adopting airport usage guidelines and fees. The Authority scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, July 22, 2025 before adjourning.

UPDATE: The new windsock has been installed and numbers have been painted on the ends of the runway. The next step is for ALDOT to inspect our progress and hopefully give us the green light to reopen the airport for public daytime flight operations.

Runway cracks have been patched and filled, numbers have been painted on both ends, brush and ditches are being cleared, and a new windsock should be installed within the next few days. The Lamar County Airport is on the verge of re-opening for daylight flight operations!
