A cathedral is the principal church of a diocese and the seat of the bishop.
The word โcathedralโ comes from cathedra, meaning โchair,โ symbolizing the bishopโs teaching authority.
Every diocese has one cathedral, but not every large church is a cathedral.
Where the bishopโs chair is, there is the cathedral.
