Chariots for Hire

Felix said this was a rude afternoon "Mother Nature"! He is enjoying his polar fleece to warm up and dry off.

All dry, grass reward for a job well done.

Today, Chariots for Hire was honored to assist Crocker Funeral Home in Suffolk, Virginia. Our condolences go out to the Council family. Pearl and Felix pulled our horse-drawn hearse down the road in their honor.

**Meet Fancy, Part 4: Honoring Families and Bringing Holiday Cheer** 🐴🎄

Some of Fancy's most meaningful work happens quietly. When she pulls our horse-drawn hearse, she carries a family's loved one with dignity, grace, and calm. It is an honor she takes seriously, and families tell us they never forget her gentle presence on such an important day.

This time of year, Fancy also gets to bring joy of the merriest kind. This holiday season you'll find her at Hilltop Shopping Center, and she'll be working several private parties and parades, toting a very important passenger: Santa himself! 🎅

Whether she's offering comfort or spreading holiday cheer, Fancy shows up with her whole heart every time.

Want Fancy at your holiday party, parade, or event? Book early, because Santa's schedule fills up fast!

Meet Fancy, Part 3: A Star in the Vaulting Arena 🌙

Fancy doesn't just pull carriages! For about 18 years, she's been one of the main vaulting horses for Silver Moon Vaulters.

Equestrian vaulting is gymnastics and dance on horseback, and it takes a very special horse. The horse has to be steady, patient, and trusting while the vaulters perform on her back.

Fancy has competed at nationals all over the country. She's been to Loveland, Durango, and Denver, Colorado; Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Tryon, North Carolina; St. Louis, Missouri; Lexington, Kentucky; New England; and California three times. She's even competed up in British Columbia! One year she logged 15,000+ miles on the horse trailer traveling to shows. 🚚🐴

In 2018, Equestrian Vaulting USA named her Region IX Horse of the Year. 🏆 We couldn't be prouder of our girl.

Almost twenty years ago, a 6-year-old North American Spotted Draft named Fancy joined the Chariots for Hire family, and she's been part of the team ever since! Foaled in Millersburg OH and lived a few years in Jacksonville NC before moving to our farm in Suffolk Virginia.

When we first started driving her, she was a little spitfire. She was always in a hurry to get to work, and she was very impatient at times. She never wanted to miss a job! 😄

Nearly two decades later, she's still one of our hardest workers. And if you ever want to make a friend for life, just bring her some Buckeye Peppermint Treats. They're her absolute favorite.

Facts:
1600 lb Mare
16.3 hands (67" tall)
Feed:
- 2.5 lbs of Safe n' Easy Performance twice a day
- 1/2 lbs of Grow n Win twice a day
- 30 lbs of Orchard Grass hay

And all the grass she cares to eat 😂

Stay tuned for more of Fancy's story! 💙

A quiet moment of respect during yesterday's service.

We were in Gloucester Virginia today. It is always refreshing to assist with a funeral in a rural area. Cars stopped and people stood outside their cars. We passed a home that was doing yard work, they parked their tractors/lawnmowers. They removed their cover as the horse-drawn hearse passed and remained parked until the final vehicle in the procession passed.
