When things get busy on deck, nobody wants to be digging through a pile of lines wondering which one belongs to the Code 0, flying jib, staysail, or takedown system.

These hanging Velcro organizers give every line a home. Curlers, staysail gear, takedown lines, and spare equipment stay separated, untangled, and ready when they’re needed.

The difference between good and great is usually found in the details.

A 70-foot race boat carrying 20+ crew can accumulate a surprising number of water bottles. Left unchecked, they end up rolling around the cockpit, getting stepped on, and creating unnecessary clutter.

These custom pedestal-mounted holders give every bottle a dedicated place, keeping the deck cleaner and crew movements more efficient.

“How long are our Code 0 sheets?”

Long enough that getting from one end to the other becomes a journey. Out of the container, through the parking lot, down the sidewalk just to keep them straight enough to milk the cover down.

The scale of these boats and the systems behind them is hard to appreciate until you’re standing you're asked to work on them. Every line, every sail, every detail gets bigger, heavier, and more demanding.

Just another day keeping the big boats moving.

The overnight push is complete. One small repair on a kite and we’re ready to go racing again.

Funny how events like this recalibrate your perspective on “workspace.” Back home, our loft in Mystic, CT is about 1,200 square feet and somehow always feels too small. Yet here we are, laying out and repairing 5,000 square foot sails between shipping containers on a stone dock in Italy.

Turns out you don’t need perfect conditions to do serious work. You need the right tools, experience, adaptability, and a little intestinal fortitude.

Racing doesn’t wait for convenience.

High-level racing is controlled chaos.

Every venue brings its own problems to solve, and Sorrento is no exception. Narrow streets, heavy crowds, difficult access, and logistics that can unravel quickly if you’re not ahead of them.

When the containers were delayed, the only option was to adapt. Vans were procured and headed to offsite staging areas. Digging through containers for sails, ropes, hardware, and tools just to keep the machine turning.

No panic. No excuses. Just problem solving.

A good reminder that nothing in racing, or life, is ever certain. The only constant is the ability to adapt and keep moving forward by.
