I resisted taking down all the Christmas decorations, but alas the time has come. The three Wisemen have reached Bethlehem. Here's a photo of our Nativity scene. The stable was made by my father circa 1958. I was about eight years old and recall my mother asking my father to build this. The figures, which probably came from the Woolworth store, survived with some of them still having the price tags stuck on the bottom. The main attraction being the manger with Jesus, Mary and Joseph costing 49 cents while the shepherds, Wisemen, and animals cost a mere 29 cents.
The photo of the little red building was made by daughter Danielle in kindergarten and states "Baby Jesus Birthday." Although our dog had chewed the bottom of the building, I love this and it must be part of our Nativity scene each year.

We've been in our bed and breakfast home for 35 years now. It was today that I became enamored with the building on our property we fondly call the playhouse. Whether or not it really was built as a playhouse, it is certain that children played in that enchanting little building. The chimney collar in the center of the ceiling caught my interest. Imprinted on the 6 inch metal collar was the patent date, November 2, 1871, Milwaukee, WI and the name of the manufacturer which was not clear. From photos and research, we knew this building was older than our 1901 house. This collar gave us a little more information. Further, I became interested in some of the other etchings on the walls and cubbies--more proof this was indeed a playhouse used by the Jensen children who grew up in our house. Enjoy the photos, but don't mind the junk. Although our grandchildren play in here, we use it primarily for garden and outdoor storage.

A change in landscape at Dreams of Yesteryear. Last fall two Grandma and Grandpa pines--about 100 years old were taken down. They were sick and dangerously close to the house. I prayed with every strong wind that they wouldn't come toppling down. Sad to see them go, Happy this spring though when the void they left made room for our pressed color concrete patio. Love my patio--so do our guests.

Dreams of Yesteryear getting some basement tuckpointing. Time of year when we do those inside jobs. Jeremy Rucinski of JER Masonry is doing the work. Couldn't be happier with the job he's doing. Highly recommend this guy.

I am looking for an experienced carpet installer to install a bordered/patterned runner on my stairs, landings, and hall. House is a 1901 Victorian. Would require mitering and pattern matching. Photos of jobs or references would be helpful.

WE'RE OPEN!

Although we felt we needed to be closed during the Pandemic and in reality thought we weren't going to reopen, our former guests and family have caused us to reconsider. Bill and I are fully vaccinated and hope you are too. If not, we hope you're taking the necessary precautions to avoid getting Covid. If you've been exposed within the last fourteen days, please wait at least fourteen days before you visit.
