Yesterday, Mayor Doug Hendrix presented a proclamation recognizing October 2026 as Hindu Heritage Month and November 8, 2026, as Diwali Day in the City of Statesville NC.

The proclamation was presented to Tika Shah and Jay โ€œJimmyโ€ Patel during the Statesville Tourism Development Authority meeting.

Hindu Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich history, culture, traditions, and contributions of the Hindu community. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and represents hope, peace, and renewal.

The City of Statesville is proud to recognize the many cultures and traditions that make our community such a special place to live, work, and celebrate together!

Happy Hindu Heritage Month, and Happy Diwali!

The Water Sewer Maintenance Division will close South Meeting Street to through traffic from East Broad Street to Court Street beginning Monday, October 19, 2026, at 7 p.m. while crews repair a waterline.

The closure is expected to remain in place overnight, with the road tentatively scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
