Joy Lofthouse has taken her final flight at 94—a woman who once carried hope through the darkest days of World War II. As one of the “Attagirls” of the Air Transport Auxiliary, she flew alone, without radios, without protection—only instinct, courage, and a map in her hands. Through storm, uncertainty, and silence, she delivered warplanes like the legendary Supermarine Spitfire into the hands of those heading into battle. Every mission was a risk. Every landing, a quiet victory.
But when the war ended, her story faded into the background, like so many others. The skies that once needed her fell silent, and she returned to a life of service—teaching, guiding, helping others in ways the world would never fully see. She never asked to be remembered. Yet she carried a legacy that could never be erased.
Now, her journey continues beyond the horizon.
