If you’re planning a trip to Japan and want a quiet, crowd-free Kyoto moment, Tenjuan Temple (a sub-temple of Nanzen-ji) needs to be on your list.

🌿 What makes this spot special – the tiny garden with stepping stones tucked off to the right when you enter. Most visitors walk straight past it… which is why it was nearly empty when we visited.

💴 Cost – ¥500 (about $3–4 USD), includes access to the gardens and stepping-stone area
🪴 Don’t miss this – the hidden stepping-stone garden is on the right-hand side at the entrance, not the main path
🕰️ Best time to visit – early morning or late afternoon, especially on weekdays, for peaceful Kyoto vibes
👥 Crowds – minimal compared to major Kyoto temples; many visitors explore Nanzen-ji and skip Tenjuan
🚃 How to get there – take the Tozai Line to Keage Station, then walk ~10 minutes to Nanzen-ji and Tenjuan
📸 Why it’s perfect for photos – mossy gardens, reflections, stepping stones, and no tour groups
🧭 Good to know – easy to pair with Nanzen-ji, Philosopher’s Path, and eastern Kyoto in one day

🌇 Shibuya Sky – Book 2 weeks in advance at the Shibuya Sky official site at midnight Tokyo time
🥞 Benitsuru Fluffy Pancakes – Walk-up day of, arrive by 6am to get in line. They’ll give you a time slot and then you can come back. Only one person in your party needs to be present. We thought these would be overhyped, but they were 100% worth it.
🕹️ teamLab Borderless – Book 8 weeks in advance on teamLab official site at midnight Tokyo time
🚗 Go-Karting (Shibuya Course) – Book 2 months in advance at Street Kart Tokyo
🍕 Pizza Bar on 38th – Book exactly 2 months ahead at midnight JST on Mandarin Oriental site (once you have been you can then email them for a reservation when you’re in town again!) this is Michelin star restaurant that only takes nine people twice a day and is the third best Italian restaurant in the world!
🗻 Mount Fuji Day Trips – Book 1–4 weeks in advance, and make sure your ticket is exchangeable because you want to watch the weather and be able to change it if need be!
⛩️ Temples + Shrines – No reservation usually, guided tours 1–2 weeks in advance via Klook / Viator/ GYG
🤼 Sumo Wrestling Tournament – 2 months in advance
🍲 Sumo + Hot Pot Tour – Book 1–2 weeks ahead via Klook / Airbnb Experiences
🤖 Robot Fight (Tokyo Tower) – walk right up!

✨ Tokyo Tips
• Shibuya Sky – Mid-afternoon ticket = stay until sunset, easier than sunset slot
• teamLab Borderless – Earliest entry = fewer crowds, stay as long as you want
• Go-Karts – Nighttime Shibuya route = best neon views
• Always create accounts early & practice login before midnight ticket drops

A road trip through the Dolomites is a bucket-list adventure for anyone who loves hiking, breathtaking views, and alpine lakes. It’s one of the most scenic trips we’ve ever taken!

The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, so you can enjoy the hikes and lakes without the snow.

Here are the must-see stops for your Dolomites road trip:

1️⃣ Tre Cime di Lavaredo
This iconic spot is a hiker’s paradise with jaw-dropping views of the Dolomites. Don’t miss the loop trail for an unforgettable experience! $47 for 12 hours of parking. And if you want to buy food at the Refugio, factor that in!

2️⃣ Seceda
One of the most photographed spots in the Dolomites. Take the cable car up for panoramic views and enjoy the rolling green meadows that feel straight out of a dream. $47/person for the gondola ride, but you can hike up for free!

3️⃣ Lago di Braies
Known as the “Pearl of the Alps,” this turquoise lake is a must-see. Arrive early to avoid crowds and rent a rowboat for a magical experience. $15/person for a 45-minute shared ride!

4️⃣ Lago di Carezza
This small but stunning lake is famous for its vibrant colors. It’s an easy stop with a short walking path around the lake for perfect photo opportunities. $3 for 1-hour of parking

5️⃣ Lago di Sorapis
The hike to this lake is challenging but absolutely worth it. The bright blue water surrounded by towering peaks is unforgettable. FREE!

6️⃣ Cadini di Misurina
This lesser-known gem offers dramatic spires and incredible views. It’s a short hike to the viewpoint, making it a great spot to end your day.
