A brochure can't tell you if a ship is right for you.

I can.

I don't take a cruise line's word for it, I go see for myself.

Every cruise line says the same thing: spacious, luxurious, unforgettable.

At max capacity, Star of the Seas carries over 5,000 guests, on paper, that sounds like a lot of elbow-to-elbow.

It isn't. I walked the ship myself, multiple kid zones, tucked-away alcoves for food and drinks, and it never once felt like I was cruising with thousands of other people.

That's the difference between reading about a ship and standing on it.

When I tell a client to book a ship, it's not a guess pulled from a listing, I've already stood on the deck and felt whether it delivers what the brochure promises.

Miss it, and you miss the moment.

People wait their whole lifetime to come to the waters at Lourdes,
believing in its promises.

Going into them isn't something you just walk up to.

Bathing there requires written permission, requested nine to twelve months before arrival.

A phone screenshot doesn't count, visitors need the physical letter in hand,
or they're turned away.

Most people find out too late.

A 10 to 14 day trip to Europe takes me about 30 hours to plan. (That's not a typo.)

That's a full week of someone's actual work, packed into one trip.

And it's not spent scrolling flight prices. It's spent thinking through everything that could go wrong before it ever does, the transfer that's too tight, the hotel that's technically in the right city but the wrong part of it, the tour that could cancel on you two days out.

On a milestone trip, that thinking matters even more. A 60th birthday doesn't get a redo. If I miss something, you're the one standing in the wrong place with no time to fix it.

I had a client whose husband wanted to surprise her with something money usually can't buy: her own history.

He'd found her father's hometown in Spain on a 23andMe map, and he wanted her to actually stand there. He didn't try to plan it himself. He handed the whole thing to me.

I built the route and handled every transfer. At one point a hotel turned out to be 40 miles off from where it needed to be, and I had a new one booked in 30 minutes. All they had to do was be there.

And then they were, walking the same narrow streets her father once did. Her son stood there too, in a place that had only ever been a story before.

You're not booking a vacation. You're going home to a place you've never been.

I get calls from people three weeks before their anniversary trip, still trying to figure out where they're even staying.

And I get it.

You spent months on the party. The venue, the guest list, the toast. But somewhere in there, the trip itself became the thing you'd “get to eventually” — and eventually turned into three weeks out, still googling hotels at midnight.

Here's the thing about a 30th anniversary: it doesn't come around twice. If the flights are a mess, or you end up in the wrong part of town, or you're spending your first night arguing about a rental car instead of celebrating 30 years together, that's not just a bad travel day.

That's the memory.

I don't want that for you. My whole job on a trip like this is to take everything that could go sideways and quietly handle it before you even know it was a risk, so the only thing you're doing is celebrating.

You used to know everything happening in each other's day. Now the biggest conversation some nights is who's picking up dinner.

It's not a fight. It's not even really a problem, most days. It's just what happens somewhere between raising the kids and running the house — the conversations get shorter, the TV fills more of the room, and “how was your day” turns into a five-word answer instead of the whole story.

You start to wonder if this is just what 25 years looks like. If the talking-for-hours version of you two is something you left behind, not something you misplaced.

But picture a table set for two, tea steeping, nothing on the agenda but the water going by outside the window. No laundry, no errands, no “did you remember to.” Just a long, slow afternoon with nothing between you but time.

It doesn't take a big trip to find your way back to each other. Sometimes it just takes the space to.
