Response to Mayor Adams’ Opportunistic Push to Ban Horse Carriages
We strongly denounce Mayor Eric Adams’ latest attempt to exploit animal rights rhetoric during an election season. This is not about protecting New Yorkers or horses—it is a calculated, opportunistic move to gain political points while ignoring real corruption and mismanagement in his administration.
For generations, New Yorkers and visitors have cherished the sight of horses in Central Park. These animals are not abused—they are cared for by dedicated horsemen and women who provide them with food, shelter, veterinary care, and respect. They are working animals, part of our living traditions, and they coexist with us in one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
The so-called “advocates” pushing this ban ignore the fact that many of these horses would lose their purpose, their livelihood, and even their well-being if stripped from the park. Instead of banning, we should invest in ensuring they are well cared for, protected from exploitation, and kept as part of New York’s cultural heritage.
This industry is not outdated—it is a reminder of our connection with animals, nature, and history. Destroying it in the name of “progress” is nothing more than empty symbolism.
If the City Council truly wants to act in the interest of New Yorkers, it should reject Adams’ opportunism, stand against political theater, and instead support policies that ensure the horses remain in Central Park under the highest standards of care.
We love our traditions, we love our horses, and we will not let corrupt politics erase them.
