Yesterday evening, we had the opportunity to welcome employees from CASA of Northwest Arkansas, along with a few of their older youth, aboard ORT for a hands-on lesson in riding public transit.
Together, we took a trip on one of our routes and walked through the basics – from finding the right stop and understanding the route to knowing what to expect once you’re on board.
For young people preparing to age out of foster care, knowing how to use public transportation can be an important step toward greater independence. It can mean having a reliable way to get to work, attend school, make appointments, access community resources, and stay connected.
By learning the system firsthand, CASA employees can also take that knowledge back to the young people they serve and help them feel more confident navigating the bus system on their own.
We loved getting to spend the evening learning, riding and answering questions together. Thank you to CASA for joining us and for helping equip young people in our community with tools for the road ahead.
