The best destination after 50 isn’t necessarily the most popular one—it’s the one that works for you.

Slow travel after 50 becomes more enjoyable when you choose destinations that match your pace, comfort needs, budget, mobility, and preferred way of experiencing daily life.

Before choosing your next destination, ask yourself:

✈️ Can I get around comfortably?
🏡 Is the area suitable for a longer stay?
🩺 Will I have access to dependable medical care?
💰 Does the destination work with my real budget?
🌿 Can I enjoy everyday life without feeling rushed?

You don’t have to keep up with someone else’s travel style. The right destination should help you feel comfortable, confident, and excited—not exhausted.

Could you really live like a local abroad after 50? 🌍

Before selling everything or committing to a permanent move, start with a test stay.

Spend a few weeks—or even a month—in the destination you’re considering. Stay in a residential neighborhood. Shop for groceries, use local transportation, visit the pharmacy, learn the walking distances, and see how everyday life actually feels.

A beautiful vacation can show you a destination. A trial stay can show you whether that destination truly works for your health, budget, comfort, mobility, and preferred pace.

At Traveling Savvy Seniors, we help adults 50+ move beyond the travel photos and prepare for the realities of slow travel and living abroad.

Your dream can still be big—even when your first step is small.

Could you see yourself living like a local abroad for one month? Tell us where in the comments.

🇹🇭 Planning two months in Thailand? Don’t assume you’ll receive 60 days visa-free when you arrive.

Effective September 15, 2026, Thailand’s revised visa-exemption scheme gives eligible travelers—including Americans, Canadians, Brits, and Australians—up to 30 days instead of 60.

A 30-day extension may be available, but approval isn’t guaranteed. If you’re planning a longer stay, applying for a tourist visa before traveling is another option to explore.

For those of us traveling after 50, this means thinking ahead about paperwork, fees, transportation, and time at an immigration office.

Thailand can still be part of your slow travel plans. Just make sure your entry option fits your trip. ✈️

Vietnam’s new electronic ID rules take effect September 28 — and they open the door to a lot more foreigners than before. Short version: if you’re visiting, you can ignore this. If you live here, stay for months at a time, or regularly deal with Vietnamese banking and paperwork, it’s worth understanding. Read the full plain-English breakdown — including what’s confirmed and what’s still unclear — in our newest blog post, HERE: https://travelingsavvyseniors.com/vietnam-vneid-foreigners/. 🇻🇳

I went out to buy groceries this morning in Vũng Tàu, Vietnam… and came across this. 💃🇻🇳

A group of women dancing outside the store to Tango with Texx—and suddenly my ordinary grocery run became one of those little moments that made me stop, smile, and watch.

This is something I love about slow travel after 50.

When you stay somewhere long enough, travel stops being only about attractions, tours, and checking things off a list. You begin experiencing the everyday life happening around you.

A morning walk. A neighborhood market. Music playing in the park. Or an unexpected tango on the way to buy groceries.

Sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you never planned. ❤️

Could you see yourself slowing down and spending a month—or longer—somewhere abroad?

Travel after 50 hasn’t become less meaningful—but the way I travel has changed.

On my recent journey back to Vietnam, the long airport walks, heavy luggage, cramped seating, and late-night arrival reminded me that comfort is no longer an unnecessary luxury. It is part of planning a trip that respects my body, energy, and current needs.

Extra legroom, airport assistance, better connection times, lighter luggage, and recovery time can make the difference between simply enduring a journey and having enough energy to enjoy the destination.

Travel after 50 isn’t about giving up adventure. It’s about traveling in a way that allows us to keep having adventures.
