Burgess Falls State Park

Burgess Falls State Park Plan a trip to visit Burgess Falls State Park and Window Cliffs State Natural Area. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes 30 minutes before sunset.

This park contains 4 breathtaking waterfalls as well as fishing and picnic areas. Also included is a round trip, moderately strenuous hike of about a mile and a half, and a butterfly garden very close by. Please be aware of seasonal hours (as stated below):
- November 1st to the second Saturday in March: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Second Saturday in March - April 30th: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- May 1st - Augus

t 16th: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- August 16th - October 31st: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Nature Nugget of the Day

🌧️ After a rain, you might notice the forest feels a little more active than usual.

Look closely on sunny breaks along rocks, logs, and trail edges, you may spot a five-lined skink moving quickly through the area.

These small lizards are common in Tennessee woodlands and are often seen darting for cover when they’re out in the open.

⚠️ Temporary Closure Notice – Monday, June 8 ⚠️
Window Cliffs State Natural Area is closed today due to hazardous water levels.
Park Staff are monitoring conditions closely and hope to reopen as soon as it is safe. For updates, please check the Burgess Falls State Park website or call the park office 931-432-5312.
Please note: This closure only applies to Window Cliffs State Natural Area.
Burgess Falls State Park and the main river trail remain open.

Help build the future of outdoor recreation at Window Cliffs State Natural Area! 🌲🥾
Join our park rangers for two exciting volunteer trail-building days as we work on the new Pyro Trail. Volunteers will assist with removing dirt, roots, stumps, and trees to help create a new trail experience for future visitors. The trail is less than a mile long but includes some elevation change, so be prepared for a rewarding day of hands-on work outdoors!
Before attending, please register and come prepared with:
💧 At least 64 oz. of water
🥪 Snacks and/or lunch
👖 Long pants and long sleeves (recommended due to poison ivy)
👟 Closed-toed shoes (required)
Tools, gloves, and eye protection will be provided, but you're welcome to bring your own.
Thank you for helping improve our public lands and create new opportunities for outdoor adventure. We hope to see you on the trail!

National Trails Day is TOMORROW!

🌲🥾 Come celebrate National Trails Day with us on June 6th at Window Cliffs State Natural Area! Join our SIR Taylor for a scenic 5.4-mile there-and-back hike featuring 18 creek crossings and beautiful overlooks along the way.

📍 Meet at the trailhead at 9:00 AM
⏰ We plan to return around 1:00 PM

This hike includes some moderate elevation changes (about 300 feet), so come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, water, and snacks. We can’t wait to hit the trails with you! 🌿☀️

Registration is still open for Advanced Jr. Ranger Camp (Ages 13–17), but spots are filling fast! If your teen loves the outdoors and adventure, this camp is for them.

Over 2.5 action-packed days, campers will:

🚣‍♂️ Kayak to the base of Burgess Falls and experience paddling on the water
🕳️ Explore Lost Creek Cave on a guided caving adventure through hidden underground spaces
🏕️ Camp overnight while learning outdoor skills, cooking over a fire, and enjoying the outdoors with fellow adventurers

This camp is designed for teens ready for real outdoor experiences, challenges, and unforgettable memories.
