After many years of serving Wilmington’s cycling community, we’ve made the difficult decision to close City Bicycle Company. Our final day will be September 4th.
This wasn’t an easy decision, and it wasn’t made overnight.
The bicycle industry has changed significantly over the last several years. Margins have continued to shrink while the costs of operating a brick-and-mortar retail business have continued to rise. With our lease coming to an end, we reached a point where we had to decide whether to commit to another long-term chapter or recognize that this was the right time to exit.
Ultimately, we made the difficult decision not to renew our lease and to close City Bicycle Company.
We’re proud of what we built here, but even more grateful for the people who made it possible.
City Bicycle Company has never just been about selling bikes. It’s been about helping someone choose their first real bike, building someone’s dream bike, keeping riders on the road and trails, and being part of Wilmington’s cycling community.
To every customer, employee, friend, riding partner and member of this community who supported us over the years: thank you.
And now, we have one final job to do.

Between now and September 4th, we’ll be aggressively discounting inventory storewide as we clear the shop — bikes, e-bikes, parts, components, apparel, helmets, accessories and more.
Inventory is limited, and once something is gone, it’s gone. If you’ve had your eye on a bike, an upgrade or some new gear, now is the time.
