We had a lovely time visiting Frank’s family in St. Charles, Illinois! 🥰 You’ll notice his mom even let me put a pink streak in her hair! 💇🏼‍♀️ We ate some top notch Italian food, visited with his sisters and their families, and Frank and Carol played lots and lots of scrabble! Next stop in San Antonio was to love on this little squishy, adorable baby and his mama! 💖 Samson loves being outside and I never expected Rosie would be protective and keep guard under his swing! 🐕 And hearing him laugh for the first time was so magical! I’ll get to see them every week this month while I’m back in Texas! 👏

After visiting Frank’s mom, he drove up to Michigan to see his son Daniel! I love getting these restaurant pics 📸 when they are together! 👨🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻I made my way back south, stopping in St. Louis, Tulsa and Fort Worth. 🚐 Tulsa was a very pleasant surprise! I found a lovely park to hang out at during the day, there were beautiful historic neighborhoods, and a delicious bakery for breakfast! I stayed in the Magnolia area of Fort Worth and ate at my favorite vegan 🌱 restaurant, Spiral Diner 🌀and got some delicious pastries 🥐 the next morning, right across the street. Luckily the weather cooperated and I wasn’t too hot as I headed South! ⛅️

When you live the van life, you find yourself staying in all kinds of places. 🚐 🚐 In Lincoln, NE we stayed at a Planet Fitness, in Des Moines, IA we were at a Walmart! When we stay at these kinds of places, I look at the photos on google 💻 ahead of time and try to pick locations that are peaceful and have lots of grass for Rosie. 🐕 Then in Iowa City we got to stay in a cute college neighborhood next to a park! 🌳 A storm ⛈️ came through in the night and the city’s tornado 🌪️ siren went off! Frank slept 🛌 right through it, but I was awake for a while realizing that vanlife is not particularly suited to tornado safety! Luckily it doesn’t come up very often! 😅

We spent a few days in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs! 🏔️ We got to experience snow ❄️ one day and 70 degree sunshine ☀️ the next! Then we started our drive through the Midwest to visit Frank’s family! 🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Our first overnight was in North Platte, Nebraska! This is historically a railroad town! 🚂 It was a convenient layover, otherwise we might not normally have sought it out. But we stayed by a sweet little park 🌳 and they have an excellent local coffee shop ☕️ called Espresso Shop by Caravan! A pleasant surprise. 😊

I love stopping in Boulder 🏔️ and this time was extra special because I was reunited with my hubby after like a month apart! 🫂 We had fun eating pizza 🍕 and gelato 🍨 and walking around the town. He even bought me a new friend, Morag the jumping spider! 🕷️ She was sewn by a local artist who I had the pleasure of meeting! .beasties As you may know, I sew collectible teddy bears 🧸, so I feel qualified to say that her creations are exceptional. They are adorable, well made with quality materials, have all the attention to detail, and I can tell she even considered the weight and density and how they feel in your arms! Morag now lurks around my van in the most adorable way. 🥰🚐

This is the only pic I took on my way back through Salt Lake City, but I found great places to refill my propane and get my nails done 💅🏻(Sugar Pop Nails). Most importantly I found a next-level cinnamon roll place called The Dough Lady (bought extras for the road) and a great little coffee shop ☕️ just a couple blocks from there called Higher Ground Coffee. It’s cool that even if you’ve been to a city multiple times you can still discover new treasures!⭐️🚐

This was my first time in Bend, Oregon and I absolutely loved it! This will be a regular stop for me when I come in this direction. 🌲 Mirror Pond and Drake Park are lovely and nearby the cute downtown shop area. The city has awesome 🌱 vegan food trucks… my first vegan crunch-wrap at Toasty was to die for! 😋 The city just has a great vibe and there were lots of vanlifers 🚐 there. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel so lucky to have spent 11 days with my family in Washington state! 🥰 I arrived on my mom’s 89th birthday! 🎂 I had Easter brunch 🐣 with my sisters and their families and a special day in Port Townsend with my sister Jennifer. ⚓️ Mom and I did chair yoga 🪑🧘‍♀️ twice, and had fun watching basketball 🏀 and the Great British Sewing Bee! 🧵 Rosie got lots of yummy treats from my dad. 🐕 My heart is full as I begin my journey eastward. 🚐 💖 Oh, and check out my mom’s beautiful spring decor! 🌸 She is so talented and has such a good eye for creating a lovely space. 🐇
