Our Story

The Toonerville Trolley is a narrow gauge train (longest 24 inch gauge train line in the country) that travels 5 1/2 miles through the wilderness from Soo Junction MI. to the Tahquamenon River. There a riverboat is boarded for a 2 hour cruise to the rapids 1/2 mile above the Upper Tahquamenon Falls. The private viewing area at the falls is reached by a 5/8 of a mile nature hike through virgin forest. The round trip takes 6 1/2 hours. Enjoy the Captains commentary throughout the river cruse. The riverboat lunch counter serves our delicious hand made burgers and other delightful fare along the way. The riverboat bar serves beer, wine, & Mike’s coolers and other cold beverages and snacks. Restrooms on-board. This tour has been offered since 1927 and is still owned by one of the original families. For those train enthusiasts we offer a 1.75 hour round trip train only ride in July and August and Labor Day weekend. The tours take you through the wilderness which improves your chances of seeing wildlife and birds. Our season runs from mid June through the first weekend in October. Let us show you how beautiful nature can be.
