JoAnn Stype was a pioneer when it came to women in aviation not only in Wayne County but around the world. JoAnn was determined and committed to changing the aviation industry when it came to female pilots. From her long career as a pilot instructor and her numerous cross country airplane races she always had a story to tell you. If you’ve visited the Wayne County Airport over the last several decades you’ve certainly ran into JoAnn. It would be hard to find anyone that’s obtained a private pilot’s license at or around Wayne County that was not directly influenced by JoAnn; whether it be her as your instructor but more likely your instructor was taught to fly by JoAnn. JoAnn will be greatly missed at the Wayne County Airport and in the aviation community.

Upcoming changes to radio operations at Wayne County Airport BJJ in the coming days.

Please note that Wayne County Airport Frequency Change - Effective October 5, 2023

Wayne County Airport (BJJ) frequency will be changing to 122.975 effective October 5, 2023. The pilot controlled lighting will still operate on 122.800 as it has in the past. The airport staff will be monitoring 122.800 and 122.975 for the remainder of 2023 to make sure all communications are heard.

Please update your procedures for travels in and out of the Wayne County Airport BJJ.

Thanks for serving the community and being a staple at the BJJ base

After a 42 year career as an RN, 33 years of which were spent as a Flight Nurse Specialist with Metro Life Flight, today Skip Gentry is working his last shift before hanging up his flight suit and retiring from MetroHealth. Skip has been a familiar face and friend of many over the years, and we thank him for his dedicated service and congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement! 💙💛
