This is very important, especially at the pond. While your dog may be awesome off-leash, please be respectful of your environment - other people, dogs and especially the waterfowl. Many dogs natural instinct is to hunt and chase - this is horrific for our feathered friends. Thank you and your awesome dogs!!

Sadly we experience this at the pond as well. Please respect the wildlife and teach those around you respect and compassion. These are living beings with souls and feelings. It’s bad enough many get dumped, but animal cruelty is unacceptable and not for “they’re just having fun” entertainment sake. It’s not harmless. It’s cruel. And punishable. Know better, do better.

I came across this simple meme the other day, and it really hit home with me. We cannot tell you the number of times we get calls about injured waterfowl, of all kinds, that have been harassed and injured by undisciplined kids, often with their parents right by their sides, throwing rocks, or sticks, or whatever is available, at harmless birds of all breeds, and all other types of nature’s creatures, often causing life debilitating injuries, and even death.

Parents, is it that difficult to rein in your unruly and uncontrollable children! I am certain that some people may read this and feel offended, that would just tell me that you may be part of the problem. We have also seen grown ‘adults’ harass animals as well, for no apparent reason whatsoever.

There is absolutely no excuse at all for this type of behavior!

Have we devolved into such a degenerate society, where we have to show our ‘toughness’ by picking on the most vulnerable among us?

Good people need to stand up against the evil among us! When you see animal abuse of any kind, speak up for those who cannot!

Stay safe out there with the storms this week.

Please see CWC post if you come across any wildlife in distress or injured. They are open 24/7/365 - call the number in their post and follow the prompts. Let's all take care of each other and our wildlife friends! Stay safe!!

Winter often brings an array of more unusual migratory bird patients to CWC’s doors. Storms like the one expected this week, in particular, can send uncommon patients like this Costa’s Hummingbird from last year for a loop and you may find yourself in a position to help!

Remember that CWC is open 365 days a year, holidays included, if you find a wild animal in distress. Call (310) 458-9453 and select the correct prompts for your situation to be connected with the right department for your case.
