SASI (Silverton Area Seniors Inc. / Silverton Senior Center) TRAVEL as of the End of May, 2023
NOTE: You must be able to board and get off the bus/van/vehicle without assistance from another person. We will provide an additional step. Are you able to step up 11-14 inches to board with no assistance (there may be no grab bars or “lights duty“ grab bars)? If you can not, you will not be able to go on the bus/van/vehicle.
* Most trips require some walking. Can you walk 2-4 blocks?
* Many places have uneven walking surfaces and sometimes several steps. Are you able to do that?
July 7 – 9 Sisters Quilt Show on Saturday is the main focus of this trip. We will be visiting various places of interest along the way to Central Oregon that weekend. It will be three days and two nights. Cost for transportation is $225 for members and $245 for nonmembers. Hotels, admissions and meals are not included.
August 10 – Scandinavian Festival in Junction City. Day trip. Transportation for members is $49 for members, $54 for non-members.
September?? – Crater Lake. Still finalizing details and dates. Three days and two nights. Cost for transportation will probably be between $245 and $260 for members and more for non-members. Hotels, admissions and meals are not included.
December ?? – Southern Oregon Coast and the lights at Shore Acres State Park near Coos Bay and the 3,000,000 lighting display in Brookings. Four days and three nights. Cost for transportation will be determined later. Hotels, admissions and meals are not included.
Prices reflect the rental of a 15 passenger van from a national rental company who offers insurance coverage for the vehicle. Silverton Senior Center receives no support from the city, a parks and recreation district or other government body. SSC needs to raise its own revenue to support programs. Each program needs to meet or exceed expenses. Travel is not a “fundraiser” for SSC, but its income needs to exceed expenses.
We will be adding more trips later. Please check the display again. Every time we add trip or make changes, the font on the top of the flier changes along with the date on the bottom.

It's "Bank Building" Wednesday.
The Condon National Bank was started by Frank Hurlburt from Shaniko and W. Lord from The Dalles and opened in 1906. The sand for the cement blocks was shipped from Umatilla, the block molds were sent from Portland and a local plant was built to cast the concrete blocks for the building. In 1910 the bank occupied the south half of the building with the north half being occupied by a drug and jewelry store. There were apartments and professional offices on the second floor. The bank became insolvent in 1923 and a few years later the directors were charged with national banking act violations and served jail sentences. It's "Did you know...about Oregon?" Friday.
September 15, 1942 – Camp White at Agate Desert, near Medford was dedicated. It served as a temporary quarters and training facility for engineering, medical and artillery units for the U.S. Army. It was named for longtime adjutant general of the Oregon National Guard, George A White. Construction began in January of 1942 and the facility closed in 1945. More than 1,300 buildings were constructed and the camp at one time was home to 40,000 soldiers. Part of the land became an industrial park and the residential area of White City.
